so my juvenile rosehair that I got a few weeks ago has now turned into one of those "psycho" rosies...LOL..."it" was great the first few weeks, I was able to handle her while doing transfer, and once to show my family how "docile" she was...(I don't make a habit of handling, I know they don't really like it) she ate awesome for a few weeks, but has now gone off feed for about 2 weeks...and every time we try to change her water or even open her tank she goes into defense mode or turns into an "OBT" and charges us...our adult female is still as complacent as can be, and if I want to hold her I can, but still choose not to...so I guess I got 1 of each...LOL...1 really nice one, and 1 of the crazy bitey ones! such is the world of Tarantulas, I guess! :D

Good abject lesson there. Just because most members of a species tend to demonstrate certain behavioral characteristics, that doesn't mean all will. (The delightful ongoing saga of Tank, the snapping turtle, is another good one.) Well who knows, its attitude may change again over time. :)

She may change after he next molt. Either way she is a pretty cool spider...we enjoy her whether she is docile or crabby.. :)

Some T's act like murderous heathens before molting, for some reason! I'd just leave her be. Does she have any hides? A lot of G. rosea actually like hides.

She prefers to hide in her plant..i was wondering if it might be molt related...time will tell..my adult female never hides... always out in the open...she will come to the side of her tank when we come in the room and if we don't come over to her she meanders back to her water dish area...

Forgot to say, we don't disturb her unless changing her water...stopped offering crickets for a while since she isn't eating and its hard to catch them to remove them when she is trying to attack you. Lol

Yeah, you definitely don't want to leave live crickets in there because if she does molt they will potentially munch on her while she's still soft. I hope she settles down for ya!

She molted today! She didn't try to attack me when I removed it so maybe she will settle down after all.. :)

Very nice!!! I love spiders!! Sadly everyone seems to be fine with my snakes, but i'd be missing a lot of people if i get spiders. I had 1 Lasiodora parahybana and they all freaked out :D

LOL..an LP is on our list of possibilities someday in the future! my older Rosie is all gray, and "Ruby" seems to be holding true to a red phase...one is super docile, and 1 is very hit or miss...more miss than hit, lately...LOL...but they sure do have personalities!

well, decided to clean out the rosies' enclosures this morning...arachne (the older female) was quite complacent...let me clean, disinfect her water dish, and I held her for a bit...then onto Ruby...opened the top, took out the dish...no reaction...cleaned it, refilled it...no reaction...touched her with the paintbrush...all she did was run up the side of the enclosure...i put the lid back on just to be safe, but continued to brush her...she still just stood still...i think she just was defensive because of molting, then hardening up...will give her a few days of testing, then I may try to hold her again, just to see...but all looks good! :D
