Such beautiful snakes. If they were constrictors I'd own one.

Similar colors but most definitely not the same snake! It's like settling for a red-tailed green ratsnake in place of a green mamba lmao

I wish Gaboon Vipers weren't venomous...their short bodies and big heads remind me of blood pythons lol.

The venomous look is part of the appeal, even if subconscious!

They are indeed beautiful snakes, but I'm afraid that I would never keep hots. I found this photo gallery of other beautiful venomous snakes with some fantastic photos.

I echo this! I think the gaboons are so gorgeous! No hots for me though. I wish willow would post more pics! ;)

I'm assuming it has to be venomous to kill its prey but don't quote me on that. ....

Bush vipers are gorgeous, but as marked in my profile.. Gaboon Vipers have my heart. I almost stepped on one once, but that's a story for another day.

Also, Mikoh pictures aren't working for me either. Are they linked from your gallery maybe and you have to be a friend to view it?

No pictures for me either! But i agree it's a shame some animals are venomous... Keeping hots isn't my thing, but i sure love their looks!

Venomous snakes really are amazing. I keep and work with over a dozen species of vipers, and I find new favorites all the time. They all have personality and each one is unique!

Awesome. Do you work with any that have been posted in this thread? I'd love to see a rough scaled bush viper in person...

The bush viper in question, Atheris hispida, doesn't survive in captivity- no one has been able to get them to feed.

I do keep Gaboons, puffs, rattlesnakes and various arboreal vipers. I'll post some:

Hybrid bush viper:

I heard gaboons can move very fast.(not just striking, but getting from one place to another)

Will0W783
02-16-14, 07:36 PM
Gaboons are ambush hunters- they can lie still for weeks, but are capable of very quick movement when they want to. The strike is faster than your eyes can register, so there's no getting out of the way if you're too close. They can also fold over backwards or throw themselves an entire body length in any direction, or jab their fangs through their bottom jaws to get you. For the most part, they are fairly placid, as long as you don't give them a reason not to be. A frightened or hurt Gaboon is a very dangerous thing. I love them, but I never let myself forget what they are capable of.
