Need help with shedding.

Can I use a vapourizer instead of a humidifier to help with the shedding of a ball python?

Anything that will raise the humidity should be alright.

You can, but with a proper enclosure you don't need any of those. A well sealed enclosure and a large water bowl should do the trick.

A dollar store spray bottle with clean water a few times a day around shedding time will make a world of difference too.

not quite every time, in the winter here my home gets bone dry, not even huge water dishes keep the humidity up. it is good to have a backup plan.

Works every time with a large water bowl and a sealed enclosure. Humidity is controlled by the amount of ventilation. Add a large water bowl, heat and a little ventilation and the humidity will go up every time.

What do you mean by bone dry? I know Canada get very cold, but during the winter here it gets below 20% humidity(inside the house) and around 65f.

I don't spray my cay caulker boas ever and they shed just fine.(Humidity is kept 60-70%). The babies are in 2ftx1.5ft enclosures and I provide them with a 5 inch diameter water bowl. It's the low ventilation that keeps the humidity in.

maybe it is the baseboard heating but it is very low humidity in my place, to the point that it actually bothers me and i have gotten nosebleeds at times, for most of my animals i use 9 inch diameter water dishes and keep them on the warm side to have them evaporate a bit more, still gets pretty dry in there.

I also have a rainbow boa which needs to be kept pretty humid so i usually just give the rest a sprits when i do his

You are missing the point. It does not matter how low the humidity is in your house, or if you put the water bowel on the hot side of your enclosure. The humidity is controled by the ventilation you have in your enclosure. Reduce the ventilation and the humidity will go up. Reduce the ventilation enough and you can cause it to condensate on the walls of the enclosure.

ok my fault for not using a quote, but i was talking to mikoh about the general humidity in my home, which can often be close to 5%. that aside, maybe the original poster isnt set up with an air tight tank and is looking for more than an absolute solution? or maybe he has a rack that cant be covered with a towel to reduce airflow, maybe 1000 things that make a second option viable. Yes, lowering ventilation will increase humidity, i was never arguing that point, and didn't miss your point either.

When he buys a new enclosure yes he should make sure the ventilation is minimal and adjustable, but for right now if that is not an option, a humidifier or spray bottle will work just fine.
