I've been thinking about JCPs for a while due to their beauty, but not sure if they will fit into my collection. Will they be OK in 4x2x1 with belly heat? I know a lot of people keep them semi-aboreal but that takes up a lot of space. Given some people keep other snakes like ATBs in tubs with heat tape, is there any reason to believe JCPs wouldn't do well? Room usually stays 76-82F, heat tape can be set to anything per enclosure. Will an adult be comfortable in a 4x2 space? Finally, how much cooling is needed to breed them normally? Concerned because I have a hard time getting temps below 75F.

I dont have one (yet) but a 1' tall enclosure isn't ideal...they are climbers...they prefer to perch from what I have researched...Mikoh can tell you more, and I'm sure he will! :D

I gave mine two foot of headroom and dont think it was enough, any future carpet i will give a minimum of three feet of climbing space.
Have a read of this care sheet by Antony Caponetto (ac reptiles)some good bits of info on there

You can keep them alive and breed them in 1 foot high enclosures. Many people do.
However it's not ideal. They will use any amount of height you give them. I'd shoot for 15" or 18" at the least, since it gives room for a perch or two. Ideally I'd go for 2-3 feet of height for a nice display enclosure.

The JCP is right for you but that enclosure is not right for a JCP.
I suggest at least 2' tall. Like all of the above have stated. They live to climb. Some people do even keep these in tubs and racks but it does not mimick their natural behavior or environments.
But!!!! Carpets are some of the best "pet" snakes to keep. Active in their viv, active out of the viv, beautiful and generally very docile.
IMHO carpets are the best snakes to keep hands down.
There are many carpet keepers here so please ask as many questions as you like. Very refreshing to see someone who is actually researching the animal first as opposed to bringing it home and asking what is wrong with it a few weeks later.

Well, I'm biased but I agree that carpets are one of the best "pet" snakes to keep. Interesting to keep, and easy to take care of.

So you aren't sure they fit into your collection and you are reluctant to provide a more ideal set up but hell as long as they can breed in the bare minimum you provide it's still an option? I recommend pet rocks.

I didn't even realize the OP was concerned with breeding.
OP why are you concerned with breeding carpets right now? You haven't even owned one yet to know if they are really the species you want to work with.
