Can they still hatch???

My leopard gecko layer 2 eggs yesterday and I candled them this morning and they were a yellowish color. When I candled them they were like a leathery texture with very small indents in them. Without candling they look like a pure white color. She laid the eggs on the paper towel bedding.

Given that she laid them on the paper towel and that they are a yellowish color when candled they are most likely infertile. But can the infertile eggs still hatch???

If they are infertile how would they hatch? Nothing will be growing inside so no hatch. Do your eggs hatch in the fridge?

Asking if an infertile egg can hatch is like asking if you can move while your not moving. If they hatched, they would not have been infertile eggs. If you did not see anything at all when candling, they are probably infertile. Usually the dent in the egg is an indicator of this as well. If she is laying and she is not paired up, pair her up with a male and maybe you can get fertile eggs. If shes paired up and still producing duds, one of the two has broken parts ;)

He is asking if an egg can appear to be a dud but actually be fertile. The answer is yes, so if you aren't sure, go ahead and incubate them until you're sure they're bad.

Typically, when candled, a fertile egg will show a small pink spot and at least one or two (but usually more) blood vessels.

You can try to incubate them if you are not sure, but these sound like duds by your description.

Candling should not be done until 2 weeks after being laid. You will be able at that time to see development in the egg. Was the female with a male at some point to make you think that it could be fertile?
