Interesting article, relating to high protein (>4%) diets for feeder roaches, and the link between Gout in reptiles
sorry if its been posted before:
The Roach Revolution Revelation (a theory about Reptile Gout) - Gecko Resource Forums (http://www.forums.repashy.com/showthread.php?t=38413)
cockroaches are particularly good at storing up Uric Acid, they do it so that they can go for a long time without having to eat protein - but they are not the only insect which builds up Uric Acid, any invert can, including other common feeders like Crickets, if they feed a high enough protein diet
I wonder if there could be a link between the unfortunately common occurance of Gout in monitors, alongside the other risk factors, given their huge appetites and the fact that feeder colonies are often fed on very high protein diets to increase breeding/production
