View Full Version : Temp Fluctuating?

I have a temp gauge and the probe is set not above the heat mat, but a little off to the side (right in the middle). But the temp keeps fluctuating... usually from 73-81. But today I caught it down at 69. The heat dial is up in the 90's but it is defiantly not in the 90's. How do if fix? Is it okay with this fluctuation? Any advice?

Thanks!

I do not have an idea what your budget is, but order an actual thermostat offline, check out Herpstat, I can't remember but go to LLLreptile.com to grab one of theirs. They are pricey but they get the job done well.

If your on a tight budget, check out this Hydrofarm MTPRTC Digital Thermostat For Heat Mats:Amazon:Patio, Lawn & Garden (http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000NZZG3S/ref=sr_sp-atf_title_1_1?qid=1386753349&sr=8-1&pi=SY200)

Hydrofarm t-stat, that's what I use and it works really well.

when using heat mats with faunariums,i put the mat on the outside of the tub, with a third of the faunarium sitting on the mat.....

i tape the probe to a pencil sharpener, and lay it on the end of the heat mat, that i leave sticking out from the hot end of the faunarium, the faunarium shelters the probe from drafts etc

the probe sits just over half an inch above the mat, this has always given me good consistent temps

cheers shaun
