Bought this pair not long ago, haven't gotten around to posting pictures yet.

Male:

Female:

Their enclosure still needs some work. I have another dwarf schefflera and a bromeliad that are going to go in, and I plan to add some small bamboo palms as well, once they are available. Plus the usual bamboo stalks/cork bark.

This picture is a little misleading. Female is on top here.

The female evidently came to me already gravid. Unfortunately the female laid the eggs where the door meets the wall, and I did not see them before I opened the door.

Very nice pair you have there. I am planning for some klemmeri eventually...(not anytime soon).

Sorry about the eggs, if you put bamboo tubes in their, there is a 99% chance they will lay them in the tubes and you can simply remove the tube and incubate the eggs inside the bamboo. Removing them from the surface where they end up sticking them is difficult haha

Yes, I plan to add bamboo, as well as cork in case they prefer that. I actually plan to remove the eggs from the surface they are laid on if I can reach them, P. quadriocellata are a non-gluing species.

Gorgeous critters!

Been a while since I researched their care. Can they be simply fed the Repashy diet like cresties?

Gorgeous critters!

Been a while since I researched their care. Can they be simply fed the Repashy diet like cresties? They can, but the general consensus is that they do much better when fed a variety of foods. I feed small inverts as well, and they love them too much for me to ever consider only feeding Repashy. They downed around 200 pinhead crickets in a single sitting the other day.

Woops, my mistake haha. EIther way I'm sure they will enjoy it. Non-glueing is a huge benefit too.

Awesome vivarium. Looks great with all the live plants. Are you using drainage? And what substrate ist hat?

Pirarucu
01-25-14, 10:13 PM
I am not using drainage, so we will see how it turns out... As long as I don't overwater, it should be fine. The substrate has a base layer of organic landscaping mix, which is what the plants are rooted in. That is then covered with a layer of coconut fiber with some moss and leaves to make it look nice.

What kind of water are you using? (I would recommend RO, distilled, or rain water. Tap water tends to lead to mineral buildup in short order.)

Wow, those are some stunning geckos! And very nice enclosure, it looks so homey :)

How many eggs can you expect in a clutch from these guys?

The picture of the two together is just too cute <3

1 or 2, 9 times out of 10 its two with most geckos. They can lay clutches very frequently though, so you can expect quite a few eggs out of them each season. I also use RO water, I buy it at walmart for a .37$ a refill per gallon and it gives me peace of mind.

Anyways, the cage looks really good. Piracucu I would add lots of leaf liter, it makes the naturalistic look complete and prevents the soil from drying out much better. (Maybe you want to let it dry out a bit being as you have no drainage layer)

Either way, looks awesome. Same plants I chose for mine actually.

They're vibrant and their enclosure looks great. Sorry about the eggs but you'll probably get more.

Thank you everyone! I would love to buy a RO filter, but for now I'm limited to distilled and rain water. I did use tap water the first few times, and still haven't cleaned the glass off. When I take them out to add the palms I'll wipe down the glass, and it should stay that way for a while as long as I keep using distilled and rain water.
Yes, leaf litter is being added. The shefflera under the basking light has dropped a number of leaves, and I have thrown in a mix of leaves dropped from other houseplants as well.

Still needs some things, but it is coming along nicely.

You haven't tried the new walmarts? I have 1 gallon jugs, they cost like 1.42 a gallon for your first gallon, and then 42 cents for refills. Reverse osmosis water and they UV sterilize it as it pours. Thats what I've been using and its cheaper than distilled.

We actually don't have a Wal-Mart near us, as impossible as that may seem. Well we do, but I have a CVS that sells water for slightly more that is just a mile away. I save enough on gas that CVS is the better option, as I can just bike there.

He is using tap, but we are working on getting some distilled. (need to get our dehumidifier up and running.)

Great pair of geckos and your cage looks amazing. I love the look of live plants in reptile enclosures. Good luck getting viable eggs from these guys.

Thank you. Sorry to say that I'll have to tear this one down and redo it, the plants have become infested with scale bugs. I also need to add the bamboo I have cut, which I am unable to do with them still in the cage. The male is easy to get into a deli cup and remove, the female... Not so much.

Any more eggs? Hatchlings? having an excuse to redo a cage is a good thing IMO.She swelled up for a bit then I found her thin and deflated one day when I came home. Could never find the eggs though, I think she or the male may have eaten them. I've been trying to up their calcium intake a little to hopefully avoid that happening again.
I agree, I love redoing cages. It's a fun chance to be creative and recreate a little slice of nature. What I love less is trying to catch a very small and flighty gecko without having her drop her tail.

She may have just reabsorbed them, no? I'm not too familiar with them to know if thats a common occurence or not. I've never heard of males eating the eggs though. They could be hidden in there somewhere. You said these weren't gluers right?

I doubt the male ate the eggs, the female would be the primary suspect if that were the case.
It happened several months ago, if they were indeed just hidden well, they would have hatched by now. No, they aren't gluers.
