my fiance and might be splitting. we've talked about it & he said if we do, he's taking my snakes.
here's the thing, yes he bought turbine. for my christmas present!
i maintain the snakes, feed them, do all the cleaning. buy everything. yes he bought the tank. but that was for the turtles we used to have. and i bought the second one.
im just wondering if anyone has gone through this? how do i keep them? do i really have to go to court for this..

I'm no lawyer but since your fiance paid for the snakes they might just let him have it.
Does your husband actually like the snakes? I thought he was afraid of them... aren't they more like pets to you and not him? For what reason does he want them?

he wants them to get back at me if we do break it off. which probably will happen.
but even though he bought her, he bought her for me. doesnt that count?

I highly doubt a lawyer would take a case like this, and if by any miracle he/she did. could you afford the retainer fees???
Just sort it out between yourselves. Maybe you will have to compromise and have one snake each and it just means that one of you will have to buy a new enclosure.

Spend thousands on lawyers!!!! Thats all you guys are lining up to do.
you both need to grow up. Thank god this isn't a kid your fighting over.

^^ This, what Donnie said. But ^this too.
By your wording I'm guessing you are the one that brought up the idea of breaking up. In which case he's hurt(and obviously immature), and wants to cause you pain. Am I in the ball park? If you guys ended up engaged there is clearly some love there(or very poor descision making). Talk to him, let him know how important they are to you. He might come around.

What he said. And what CK said. No lawyer is going to waste their time with this, because based on your previous posts, it sounds like you don't have the money to spend on one.
Worst case scenario, he takes all of your snakes, pawns them off, and you'll never see them again. You're young, you'll get over it, you'll find another boyfriend and get new snakes. Next time, get a job, buy your own snakes, and get everything in writing. Life lessons learned, and you'll (hopefully) be all the more wiser.

First of all, I'm really sorry to hear this. In reality, I don't think a lawyer will spend his/her time with a situation like this. Hope everything works out for you guys.

A lawyer will spend as much time doing whatever you are willing to pay for. The only people who love splits and divorces are lawyers.

I'm referring to a "snake custody" battle.

If both sides want to go to court.....the lawyers will be there as long as you keep paying.

Someone we don't have to deal with anymore, if you're really curious use the search erikbush97. I only caught the last few months of him being here and was perplexed as to why he bothered asking advice he wasn't going to follow.

He was a guy who asked for advice but never followed it then asked for more to fix the problems that arose from not following the first advice. To top it off he argued good advice because it wasn't what he wanted to hear. He was immature and eventually we were able to piss him off enough with good advice that he told us all off in a way that got him banned. Thank god !! We got to hear all about his crappy life and heard many never thought of before reasons why we were stupid and knew nothing and how he knew it all. Yet his snake died and he had problems galore.
I think we are looking more at the next embracecalamity. Remember her?

I've never heard of her. I'm assuming she's from a few years ago?

Unfortunately we are always going to have that one person that's just keeps asking stupid question after stupid question. Then they never take good sound advice. They will argue with just about everything. They will never contribute to the forum but ignorance. It just part of forum like this.

I was actually referring to Eric's super powers. The one's that allowed him to make dozens of irrelevant threads and get pages of responses.
Embracecalamity was quite intelligent and followed advice. Unfortunately she was terrible with people.
@ op
Are you guys even common law? Aren't you living with your mother? Where does he live and where are the snakes kept?

I bet... like once everything is final... I bet you can talk some sense into him... even give him like some money (like however much the snake was) because he'll probably just sell it
