Moldy Wood Fix?

I have two pieces of grape wood in my BRB enclosure... And they are a little moldy like on certain places (a thin layer in white mold). Right now they are sitting out drying. I put moss on the wood too... And I think I'll stop so they don't stay as wet... But is there any way of keeping the mold off of it? Like a treatment or some sort of secret? (Other than just drying it out every few days).

springtails and woodlice will eat mold, they take time to colonize however, and you need a permanent bio active substrate

otherwise, just take them out and give them a good scrub before the mold builds up

Ug... I really don't think I want to colonize bugs.... but thanks for the reply! :)

The secret is bugs. Springtails are a necessity when you have wet enclosures IMO.

It's not like they'll be roaming inside your house. They'd get dehyrdated and die so the bugs will just be inside the enclosure.

I'm seriously considering going bio-active in the near future.

I just had the same problem in my cage. Living in the desert I have had zero experience with mold. It's a new branch that I just put in the cage. I pulled it out, but is just scrubbing it and letting it dry again good enough to put back in the cage, or does there need to be some sort of deeper cleaning? Thanks.

Bio active is where you have like live plants in you tank right?

Well if so, I am thinking about doing that when he is full grown...

So maybe I'll get the bugs then...

I think to put it simply it's just soil, some good bacteria from outside, some bugs...... and live plants are an option.

Ohh, okay thanks! I am going to look into that kind of stuff when is full grown for his permanent enclosure

I was noticing the same thing last night with my hiding log. I think I will just give it a good scrubbing and let it dry. This humidity thing is a real Catch 22. Damned if you do, Damned if you don't.

I use bio-active substrate for my enclosures and all I do is spot clean obvious waste when I see it. My soil has been running for a couple years now.
