I am setting up a new cage right now for my unknown carpet (possible IJ x Jungle or something or other) and it is a 24 x 18 x 20 cage with a 40 watt radiant heat panel. I have a perch below the panel which is reading about 92 on the perch. My question is do I need to also have a hot spot on the ground? Because the ground is currently reading around 80-82. I could add a heat mat, but if it isn't necessary I would rather not. Is the hot spot on the branches enough?

Is it just one of those things that if I put it in there and see it on the ground a lot add a heat mat then? Or I could lower the branch which would in theory raise the temp on the ground as the thermostat probe is on the branch. Thoughts?

Sound to like it's just fine the way you have it set up.

My temps are the same and they're all growing like weeds, happy and active.
