Hi, and help needed to identify African snake

Hi,
I'm from the United Kingdom, and am here asking for help with identifying a snake I came across whilst travelling in Zaire (now DR Congo) in 1986.

Unfortunately it seems I'm not allowed to post the photo yet until I get moderator approval, so looking forward to getting it and being able to post the photo!
