thats my hubbys idea...he was an engineer at one time...he is so handy I can't imagine not having him around! He was dead set on NO more animals today...just looking...he fell in love with this little guy/gal!! NO arguments! LOL

I made sure I had everything here that could be thrown together super quick for an enclosure for this "kiddo"...JUST in case...I was shocked to find a table that actually had these...and ONLY these...bred by a couple who were zoo keepers of snakes that just fell in love with the species and started their own breeding business...very awesome people!! I actually didn't expect to come home with one of these guys...LOL :) hubby fell in love with it..I didn't even have to use my "puppy dog eyes" (as he calls them)..lol

I am incredibly jealous...I want a chondro so bad..when they are young, that yellow is just incredible plus I want to get something I can actually find in the enclosure. lol Great pick up sharlynn and nice setup!

I think your going to have some serious problems with keeping humidity in with a open top cage. And with a heat lamp this sucks all the humidity out of the cage very fast.

I hope there's no issues with humidity but I see this far too often when people keep Morelia Viridis in Aquariums.

Plastic enclosures are very affordable and hold humidity a lot better. I just don't want you to have a bad experience with your first Green Tree Python. Check this forum out, they will be able to help you and have some amazing info on there.

I returned the snake due to an issue that the breeder withheld. The top of the glass tank was not open, it was covered just not visible in the pic. He was moved to a plastic tub anyway after 1 day in the glass enclosure. We will be looking for a different snake from a different breeder in the not too distant future. I tried the other forum and was met with 3 pages of people going on and on about the fact I used the term "he" even tho I stated more than once it was not sexed and was pretty much unimpressed with the attitude I received over a simple pronoun. I was ordered pretty much to only ever use the terms it or neo. Pretty petty. Especially since there were other entries I read where ppl did the same thing I did and it was acceptable. Even after apologizing for the indiscretion the lecture went on so I never went back...no desire to return.

Not actively looking for anything just yet...concentrating on these guys right now...we were checking out some JCP breeders online, pricing, etc...Thinking that when we do decide to get a GTP we will try to get one that is from a well known breeder and guaranteed healthy when we get it...IF we go to that expo in 2 weeks, we have no plans on buying a GTP...mostly looking for a deal on enclosures, or connections to some breeders, etc...

I think the big mistake a lot of first-time arboreal python/boa owners make is buying a tiny baby. When you are new to these species, you are much, much better off buying a snake that is subadult or adult (one that has already undergone its color change). Neonate GTPs and ETBs are very fragile creatures and are not tolerant of even small lapses in humidity or temperatures. Many of them become stressed by moving to a new environment and if you are not familiar with the species and how to handle them you're at a big disadvantage. I'd highly recommend that you look into purchasing a quality, CBB subadult or adult when you are ready for a new GTP. It will cost you more money, but the snake will be much hardier and easier to keep healthy. Just my $0.02.

Thats what we have pretty much decided...leaning towards a yearling....I was so stressed out over the whole situation that I really am in no hurry to attempt another baby snake...all of mine except my corns were older snakes...I like that much better. Lol

Sorry things didn't work out with your GTP Sharlynn. I'm sure you'll find just the right snake when the time is right for you. It's interesting that you prefer to buy older snakes vs. babies. I'm just the opposite. I like watching my snakes grow from babies to adulthood. I know nothing about GTP's though, perhaps it is better to have a well started animal. I only have colubrids.

Was tiny like a hatchling but found out it was almost 7 months old and hadn't eaten well over that time. I didn't want to deal with those problems...disappointed, but feel good about the decision. We will be more diligent and prepared next time...

yeah...I have seen much younger GTP's advertised that are longer, bigger bodied, etc...and he tried to tell me this one was average...no way...gonna keep looking, though...never know when a deal will pop up! :D
