Im having a hard time with my heat mats, the temp probe is reading 101 in one spot and everywhere else is about 90 flat. there is a quarter inch space under the mat and its a the low setting of a zoo-med rheostat. the other onefor the cool end is working fine because i dont have it stuck to the cage but just sitting under the plastic tank and reads in the mid 80s.

I would love suggestions.

thanks

what substrate are you using? and how much?

where are you placing the probe, on the surface of the substrate or underneath it on the bottom of the enclosure?

what temp measurements do you get in those places?

Try putting the thermometer probe and the thermostat probe, together, on the bottom of the enclosure, underneath the substrate, directly above the heat mat

Im using newspaper 3 layers and the probe is under the substrate.

are you sure it was a thermostat? and not a simple dimmer switch?

anyways, good to hear its working now, thermostat is a much better option than a dimmer
