She's just under 4 feet and was previously in a 2ft cube. She seems to be appreciating the extra space. Very curious and has been exploring her new home for the past half hour.

Very nice enclosure! I was gonna do the removable perch setup like yours is but I was too lazy to measure and cut the branches so I put in some grapevine instead... now Im regretting that cuz pulling out a 5ft carpet isn't easy in a cage full of grapevine, so handling has been kept pretty low... Gonna have to make mine like yours. Carpets are awesome!

Thanks guys, as time goes by I'm thinking of using bio-active substrate and putting in live plants.

I don't really handle her anyways. Although she does switch on and off between perching and going inside her hide. So she's a lot easier to take out when she's just coiled up on the ground.

nice :)

what is the enclosure made from? and what make is the RHP?

I was planning on installing my RHP's in my new carpet enclosures, but having been testing them the last few weeks, i'm finding the top is reaching 60C, and I'm not happy installing that in PVC....seems the US makes dont have that same issue

Nice looking setup Mikoh, how big is it?

Formica, have you got a link to the RHP's you have got?

Formica, the enclosure is made from expanded PVC. The RHP is from RBI or aka Reptile Basics. I don't think they get that hot but I do find that it makes a warm spot on the floor of the cage above.... so there is still defintely some heat transfer.

Donnie, Big Bertha's enclosure is 3x2x2

A nikon d5200 with a 105mm macro lens from Nikon. But those pics are probably not as good as they can be. I just need to learn my photography a bit more.

I'd like to add a bullsnake to my collection sometime in the future. Heard they tend to have a bit of an attitude though, which could be fun.

I highly suggest a pit. They can display awesome "tude" but generally as soon as you touch them it's all good and they are quite mellow.

So in other words they are bluffers haha.

Would you say they need larger enclosures than carpets?

Well when mine "hunts" she rips her viv up ,tunnels, fills her water dish with dirt and moves her hides ect. A bigger enclosure would be good but not 100% required.

Awesome, I forgot how thin most colubrids are for their size. Most would probably fit in an enclosure better than a boid of similar length.

how often do you completely change your substrate? I've been doing just paper now since most of my snakes spend their time in the "trees". If I'm going to have a snake that moves on the ground I'll probably go with loose substrate.

She has been on this reptibark for over a year. I rinse it with hot water and replace the spot clean with "recycled" stuff. She likes aspen too. I don't think newspaper will cut it for a pit. My gopher burrows daily. These are great to keep.

I guess loose substrate is the way to go then, for most colubrids at least. Sorry for all these questions haha, but I'd some perspective before jumping. Do pits go to the bathroom often?(more than once a week). I've refrained from keeping some of the snakes I really love like indigos, anacondas...etc because of the messes they make on a frequent basis.

No. Pits go less than weekly as adults. Don't worry about all the questions. This is exactly why we are here.
