View Full Version : Of Retics and Feces.....
What is it about my male platy retic that makes him think that it's ok to SMEAR CRAP ALL OVER/AROUND/ON everything in his enclosure?!?!?!??!?!
It's like he just waits for a clean cage and then explodes everywhere!!! I've never owned a snake that painted graffiti with feces....
Ok...I'm done now....

My corn snake is gross and likes to lay in her own feces so I always have to give her baths, she guards it like it's treasure.

Bahaha. There was a pic floating around on another forum of a 12 foot retic that looked like a crap bomb went off in the enclosure. Lol gotta love em! Mines only about 3 1/2 feet right now so it's been fairly clean. I def have never owned a snake that poops so much.

I was disinfecting,Nagini, my big jamp girls cage last month and found poo smeared in the top corner of her cage. I don't even know how she managed that one.

Whenever I clean my corn snake's enclosure and change out the aspen...she wants to poop lol. Luckily aspen is too easy to clean.

"guards it like its treasure" I'm sorry but that is just funny. I can picture a feisty little corn snapping away trying to protect its booty bullion. My RTB likes to crap in a freshly cleaned water dish.

My RTB likes to crap in a freshly cleaned water dish.
My yellow anaconda does the same to his water bowl/pool/toilet like clock work every 3-5 days. And usually in under an hour of him getting a freashly cleaned bowl. So much so he's now got a second small bowl he can't crap in so he's got clean water until I clean his bowl the next day.

the pure dwarf and super dwarf locales are said to have even faster metabolic rates. I can't wait to see what having a clutch of these little poo factories is gonna be like, lol.

Oh wow! Nessa decided to crap on Wednesday then proceeded to flip her water bowl upside down and flood the cage creating a wonderful swimming pool full of crap.

Hahah, definitely a trait most retic owners tend to (want to) forget about.
I've had one that smeared so much crap it eventually led to mouth rot. Treated it successfully though with daily cleanings and disinfecting.

I've got a few that are regular poo Picasso's. The blonde likes to give herself a mask, the worst is by far the 50% jampea Goldenchild. She doesn't go more than a few days without poo painting everywhere.

Your guys' snakes are weird. lol I always get neat little piles (well, Cloud's piles aren't exactly little anymore...but that's beside the point) in the corner from Bud and Cloud, although Draco usually tries to create a connect-the-dot picture with his tiny poos.

There is that, but still. Reading this is hilarious. I'm glad I'm not having to destroy my snake's Picasso paintings every time they poop. Probably something I'll end looking forward to eventually, though.

Reading this brings back memories, yea its very much a retic thing.. My bali yellowhead female used to love to smear poop against the glass, not a pretty sight to behold. And it would also run all the way down via the glass, making a slushing sound when you opened it. That sound would make my hair stand up, and it did not make the smell any better either! I did not like cleaning that. Had to take the snake and both windows out to clean it, every... single... time.. :o
(She also did not like me very much, so it was never a quick clean-up)

How big was your yellowhead? I've got a chance to pick up a pair and have heard they generally get 14ft but can get bigger.

The last time i measured her (with a string) she was about 16 feet at 6 years old she was a big girl, the male was 10 feet but he was around 3 years old.

I'd you ever weigh her when she was 16ft?
Tsubaki
01-28-14, 07:18 AM
We did weigh her at the vet once, but that was when she was younger. I think she was around 60pounds? I could be wrong, all i know she was in a very nice shape :D not fat or skinny.

Here we go! This is what I come home to. My retics quarantine tub flooded and full of crap. Mind you she is only about 2 1/2" feet so this is nothing.

God that looks familiar... oh wait, that was 30 minutes ago... Wait until you have a cage with vents and they learn to projectile piss at the vents or poop and smear the glass with sliding tracks and then piss on the poop so it dribbles down into the tracks and then leaks out when you open the cage... fun times.

One aspect i truly don't miss!! - when i look at that picture i can just smell it. My tiger now seems to be very well behaved, leaving neat piles! And she has not tipped over any water containers either.. She still guards her poop like its a treasure, but at least its an easy clean up so far. She is only 7 feet atm, you never know :p she might turn into an artist yet! (however i pray she won't)
And millertime, i had an expert sliding track pee/poop artist, i know exactly what you mean! - horrorsmells! and dirty floors.. well not just floors, dirty everything.:D

Aaahhh carpets and retics Do-Not-Mix :D I never lost carpets simply because i don't have any near snakes.. I did however lose a bedsheet. A very angry Ceram retic decided to projectile pee when i was handling her in a bedroom, and she made a nice splash drawing on the crisp white sheet.. The stain never came out.. ugh.

It's only better when you add pictures, and this was from a 5.5 ft pure SD Anery Male. . . This morning I got off of a 12 hour shift and found my 13 ft females cage flooded with urine. Took her out, gave her a shower, cleaned the enclosure, got her back in and not even 30 seconds later she dumped her water, thought oh well this is a good time to pee, then flooded the cage with urine again. The feces don't both me because they don't tend to smear it TOO bad unless its runny, but the urine will make you wonder why you ever got into the game.

The soup smear is the worst... especially after a pig dinner.

No doubt. I have two retics. One leaves it in one spot of the cage and stays away. The other pees, craps, spills the water and then proceeds to paint the entire enclosure.
