View Full Version : A very angry Spotty today

I have not seen my Spotted Python in 4 days, I normally handle him everyday as he is usually a sweetie pie but, I tend to leave him be after he eats so I let him be, he's usually active at night and I haven't even seen him then so I decided to take him out today and I came across a very, very angry and agitated lil guy, he even swung around as If he was going to try to bite me but didnt. His skin is looking a little dull but still had some sheen and color and his belly is NOT pink at all, his eyes are not blue but don't look at clear as they normally do so I am assuming he's probably getting ready to go blue as I've had him since Nov 27, 2013, he has grown but has not shed since I've owned him.
He is also scheduled to be fed tomorrow, should I hold off just in case?
Any thoughts?
You could always try and feed but it won't hurt to wait either so it's completely up to you. Most of mine will eat whilst in blue but some won't.

Im just afraid of regurge, I know its difficult to make a call on this but does it sound like he could be going blue?

no harm either way tbh, if he wants to eat he'll eat, if he doesnt, he wont, and waiting another week isnt going to hurt either....he may have been blue already, the eyes often clear just before shed

But I see no signs of shed in his enclosure, wouldn't I have seen the shed skin?

nah, blue lasts for a few days, then it clears for a few more days, then they shed

As stated, Blue lasts a while, takes my guy a good while before he starts to shed. No harm in feeding him though, he will let you know if he wants to eat or not :)

Ok thanks to you all for your input, I do appreciate it.
Just adding my input, my carpet only shed once when I had her, but she was blue for two or so days, then she cleared up for a week and you couldn't tell she was in shed at all. He's probably just shedding. :) I say go ahead and try feeding him, if you're comfortable with it.

Not to be the genus police, but aren't spotted pythons Anteresia and not Morelia?

Spotted python - Antaresia maculosa
Carpet pyhton - Morelia spilota ssp.
Both Australian natives - look nothing alike

I have this and I do appreciate this but what difference does this make if any on the shedding cycle? I have googled the hell out of this and I find nothing.

It makes absolutely no difference to the shedding cycle... there is no correlation what so ever to shed cycle and species.
In fact there is no correlation what so ever on shed cycles within the same species.
Shed cycles are dependant on growth rate... growth rate is dependant on prey size and availability as well as environmental factors and genetics.

Queue the music, <music notes> "Do you see what I see?"
Here's my dilemma now, I couldn't understand why he's has been so angry, well I fed him and at that time there were no signs of shedding, he eat, and an hour I saw this. Is it an issue that I fed him while blue.?

Couldnt' see your pics, but it's no problem if they eat in blue. They just often won't because they can't see well and are more defensive. No worries.

Im not sure why my pictures screwed up, between PC issues and Snakes issued Im going crazy.
Here's the deal, hes been acting really strange for a week. I made a humid hide and hes been in it a week straight, stupid me took him out to feed him, he showed NO signs of shedding! I fed him a small Fuzzy in a separate Keeper, he eat it with no problem, I let him sit about an hour and then I transferred him back to his regular enclosure and I saw his nose peeling. But he is not trying to shed further, hes sitting is his favorite spot on the cool side.
Should I put him in the humidity box or let him sit because he just eat?

You are worrying too much and also messing with your snake too much. Just leave it be, it knows what to do as long as temps and humidity are in place. Spotted Pythons don't even require much humidity so a humid hide isn't needed at all. You also don't need to move your snake into a separate feeding enclosure for feeding.
Just leave it alone and it will do the rest on it's OWN time.
