Yesterday I got some awesome Christmas presents from a good friend. I finally had a chance to go up to his place to see all his snakes, and he gave me a Christmas Eve baby male C. insularis for my female. :)

I also got a stunning, 2-foot female WA Gaboon. I now have a viable pair and should be able to breed them next year!

Here's the new Gabby settling in:

Thanks everyone. Shaun, yes the insularis will stay that color. My female is now about 2 feet long and very bright lemon. Their color is one of my favorite things about them.

Wow, those gaboons are gorgeous. But I'm in love with your C. insularis. Dibs on a baby, what do these sell for anyway; I've never seen one at a show. When do we get to see the albolabris?

Sublimeballs, babies are usually around $300. I haven't posted pics of the albolabris yet, because she's not feeding for me and I don't like to stress animals that are giving me problems. I'll try to remember to snap a few pics of her. She's also lightning fast and tries to escape constantly. She's honestly a massive pain in the keister!

The Gaboon viper is so beautiful!!!!!!! I am insanely jealous right now. They are seriously my favourite venomous snakes. I personally am too much of a wimp to own anything venomous. GORGEOUS snakes though! :)

I had a buddy who couldn't get his male to eat either. What are you feeding, pinky halves? Have you tried scenting prey?

Hmm, mine wasn't to bad about trying to escape when she was small. Trying to bite anything warm while in the cage is another story; but once on a snake stick she rides the stick really well. I hope she turns around for you these are awesome little crotalids.

i know right look up rhino vipers if you have not then you will be amazed!!

Gaboons have really intricate patterns that allow them to hide among the dappled light on the forest floor. As crazy as they look, when you see one hunkered down in leaf litter they really disappear!
Rhino vipers are even brighter, often with shades of yellow, red and vibrant blue. It never ceases to amaze me what evolution has done with snakes!

That being said, there is a fair amount of variation in color intensity, levels of pink and purple, and clarity of pattern among CBB Gaboons and rhinos. My friend that I got the female from is very selective about his snakes, so she's got particularly nice hues and speckling. She's a very vocal girl, but pretty calm.

She's a white lipped pit viper, I've seen them listed as trimeresurus albolabris and Cryptelytrops albolabris; haven't figured out which is the most recent listing(probably should know this). I've had her for almost 2.5 years now she's gone from a tiny little 6" worm to nearly 3 feet. Great species to work with. Ill be getting a male hopfully sometime this year to raise up, and ill have a go at breeding them in a few years.

Sorry for the minor thread jack.

Ill try and snap some, but they will be cell phone pics(time to get a camera) And ill go ahead and make a thread. i haven't really Put any pics of my collection up yet as my phones camera makes everything look really terrible. She's very cage aggressive(I was actually hoping for an aggressive snake for my first hot, better training)but rides a hook really well. She doesn't climb the hook towards me or anything(I use the 2 hook system to handle her). I've been handling hots for over 10 years now but she's my first venture into having one in my house; very different experience.

I'm not scared of venomous animals but I'm too nervous to own one if that makes any sense. I guess you can say if a mistake happens, I don't want to die over it lol.
