Positives and negatives of using basement.

I'm starting to feel a bit cramped with the current reptile enclosures in my one bedroom. My fathers basement is actually heated (its 24 outside and 70 in the basement) so I am thinking to move what I have to his place. He also has a generator if we lose power, which I do not. Any other negatives other than cold temps (which is irrelevant) that I'm not seeing?

do you visit daily? Only negative I see is that you'd have less time for surveillance.

I visit every other day I guess, hes 3 minutes down the road and I go over to give him papers for the business. Surveillance is the one I was concerned with too, but its not a huge concern.

Don't know what to tell you. I also keep my snakes in my bedroom but I won't be adding anymore animals to the collection so they are fine there. But then again I don't keep lizards that need a lot of room lol

are there termites or fire ant infestations locally?

have the foundations been treated against termites or carpenter ants, and if so how/with what and when?

do you have any fracking locally? allot of reports of dangerous gases and toxic chemicals leaching to the surface

cant think of any other things to consider myself? i'd love a basement to turn into a reptile room! nice quiet area of the house, and often less prone to rapid temperature fluctuations

No flood zones, and the basement hasn't had a drop of water since he bought the house. Very dry, no termites, no funky radioactive ground, he did the whole 9 yards before purchasing. I went down there to grab something and was really surprised at how warm it is. It also has plumming and everything, it used to be owned by a dentist and the basement was the work place lol

having a room you can naturally allow to become cold,comes in very handy for brumation

I don't see any negatives in keeping your snakes in a dry, climate controlled basement. I also can relate to having all my snakes in room as I have currently 36 in my room, which is also in the basement. The one problem I have had to overcome is that our basement is so dry that in order to prevent bad sheds, I have to run 2 humidifiers in my room, but other than that, a basement setting would be fine for snakes IMO.

I have to run a dehumidifier to keep it at 60% humidity. My dad runs it because hes scared it will get moldy or something, but the house is historic, a couple hundred years old and only 3 families have lived in it and I haven't seen any signs of mold or water damage anywhere.
