Hello, my bearded dragon that is a few years old. He brumates for a good 3 months without eating or anything the whole time. I am going on a trip for about a week for the holidays. I am obviously not going to have anyone feed him or anything so is it ok to just turn the lights off completely? I know he will stay brumating if it is not warm. I know some people who let their dragons brumate outside the cage. I do not want the lights on for safety purposes. I can keep the whole house above 65-70 degrees. If I leave the lights on I will have someone come every few days to make sure they do not burn out but I do not want him to come out of brumation while I am gone. Thanks!

Hi, if you can be sure the ambient temp in the room doesn`t fall below approx 60f it should be fine. It would be a good idea to inform anyone coming to check NOT to disturb the dragon at all (no deliberately waking, offering food, water, bathing, etc).

Now that we are discussing this, my beardie is bromating in her warm side hide. She seems fine with the lights on. Should I keep them on (obviously they are turned off at night).
