My husband is afraid of picking up our hognose because he is convinced he will die if he gets bitten. He is highly allergic to bee stings... but does he really need to be that worried?

no, he doesnt
In a word, no. Allergies to bee venom had zero bearing on snake venom. Further, though some will disagree, Hognose venom does not pose a serious threat to humans. While swelling and discomfort may occur, clinically significant envenomation (as measured by snake bite severity score) would not be something that I would personally worry about.

If he allowed the snake to chew on him for several minutes.....maybe. But given his concern, I doubt he would allow that to happen. So no.

he could always go and get an allergy test done, to be sure either way, although i doubt hognose venom is on their list of standard tests, so might cost a fair amount.

The simple fact is, no one knows how a venom is going to effect you until you are bitten. I would most likely say he is no danger if bitten, but who knows?
