Best thing to do is let your friend decide if she wants to see the snake. If she comes over again, I would not even bring up your snake again, unless your friend initiates it. If she does want to see it, take things slow, let her see it while it's in it's enclosure. If that's how far your friend wants to take it, I would leave it at that.

Only your friend can decide if she wants to overcome her fear.....respect her wishes and boundaries. You really can't make her less scared of snakes, unless she wants to overcome it herself.

I have a carpet python that is responsible for curing many people of their fears of snakes. Little squirmy snakes scare some people more than bigger slower moving snakes.

Basically this.

My sister would get freaked out by my cornsnake because of their skittish nature when they are young. However everytime she sees my boas or carpet python she drools over how "adorable" or "pretty" they are.

I guess it helps to make someone feel secure when something isn't so fast and energetic.

My family won't set foot in my house anymore now that they know I have a snake. My grandma even says I got the snake because I don't care about her... I just live with it because none of them will ever accept that I have a pet snake.

I would lock her in a room with the snake. Preferably multiple snakes. Oh and scent her. ;)

Haha jk

I always try to educate people about them and eventually they may warm up. Many people are scared because of ignorance. It's embedded in our genes to be afraid of snakes.

I actually wrote a paper on this in psychology class. I'll try to find it, but it has been so long I doubt I will.

Just make sure you don't try and force it.

Your friend knows they are there and one day sooner or later she will give it a try.

Some people...aka... My little brother. (Deer hunting, sport bike racing, tough guy) are so horrified of reptiles they cant even handle talking about them. My little bro originally couldn't even look at pictures on my phone. (Really) When he comes over and his GF wants to handle one of my animals he used to leave the house. He is getting better, but veeeery sloooowly.

Go at your friends pace and she will come around.

I got the same thing from my mother. We didn't speak for months over it. Now she comes over and will even stand at the cages and watch them.

I have managed to cure a few ppl of their fears with my rainbow boa..had a few ppl who were terrified of them actually start petting her and telling me how beautiful she is..may take time but its worth it to know that you helped someone overcome their fears :)

I have a friend who used to vomit if i spoke about my snakes, after five years we can now talk about them but she cant look at pictures or see them on tv without a violent reaction.

These things take time and patience and forcing anything on them will make things worse rather than better.

My mom hates snakes. I had to work my way up from a fish to get a snake. Took me forever!

<3 it Terranout! I agree, let her come into it on her own time.. if you force the issue and it doesn't go great,( she freaks and drops the snake, it perhaps takes a test nibble... ) she will be bitter and resentful.
