I contacted this person on craigslist about a jungle carpet python. They sent me a picture of a male (not the one in the pictures below) and it was very brown, so I told them I wanted one that was yellow. They said they had a smaller female that was more yellow and these are the pictures they sent me of her.

I can't decide if I should get her or just wait for a better opportunity. She is $200. They said she is a few years old, tame and eating f/t medium rats. She doesn't look very yellow to me in the pictures, but maybe that's just the pictures.

She looks good for a few years old, however for a jungle to be vibrant even after several years yoill either need to luck out or pay top dollar on good blood lines.

Well, I found a female that was bright yellow at the last Repticon for $250. I'm not sure of her exact age, but she was small. About 2 feet I'd say from guessing. I can't remember which magazine the man said her parents had their pictures on... Was that just a lucky find for that price?

At that age no. Id say its a good price but around 2-3 years is when you can usually tell whether or not a jungle will stay clean or muddy out.

Also if you can get lineage info thats a plus.

2 feet id have to guess is just around the one year mark.(it depends on the snake but ive never seen a 2 ft carpet that was older than 1years old)

I.think youncould.find a better specimen for 200 $. I would wait for the next repticon or expo, and ask some.info about the.parents...

Not at that age. $200 for a young adult female is a pretty good deal. I'd sell my babies for $200

I pd $125 for my JCP at a Repticon last month which I thought was a pretty good price. She is abt 2 yrs old.

I'd say that was a steal. Did it come with lineage information?

no the snake didn't come with lineage or pedigree information. That is not saying she didn't have any. I just didn't ask. As I am not planning on breeding my snakes I am more just looking at price, health and aesthetically pleasing animals. If I was looking to breed and sell I would be much more concerned with lineage.

It may have, but I didn't ask about lineage. I don't think I know enough about who or what to look for pedigree wise to even know if it is from a good line or not. It is just going to be a pet and not for breeding but I will be more aware of that in the future. When you start start selling your carpets definitely put me on your contact list!

Haha will do.... but that won't be for a few years.

I don't know about anyone else but lineage information is not just for breeding purposes or getting a snake from "good" lines whatever that means. For me it's an indicator of just how pure an animal might be. Of course you can't really know if a snake is 100% jungle carpet python(except for a few breeders who specialize in keeping lines pure) but if you see in it's lineage that all it's parents were jungle carpet python it takes away the worry.

It's scary to know how much a cross can actually look like a jungle. I've seen diamond jungles, diamond jungle jag siblings...etc that all look like ordinary jungle carpet pythons.

You can take it if you want, but $200 is kind of expensive for CL's "small re-homing fee" rule imo. If it is a steal, I would say it doesn't matter if you really want it. :)

I would wait it out and get one that says to you straight away "you must be mine" You have doubt about this one so pass on it and wait for the right one for you. If you want a yellow jungle then get a high yellow, you won't get more yellow then them ;)

I think the high yellows are very beautiful. :) There are a lot of expos that are coming up that are within driving distance for me, so I think I will wait.

Same here. If you have to ask then no. I think that for 200 you can find a much better deal and snake.
