weight gain?

not sure where to post this...so going under general discussion...my CRB, Iris, as some of you know, was ill with an RI when we got her and very dehydrated, also did not eat for us for a month...she has eaten 2x for me now, (the last being Tuesday), has been going to the bathroom quite regularly...when she was weighed at the vet's office a month ago she weighed 948 grams...I weighed her last night and she is up to 1176 grams...is it normal to gain that much that fast? could it be water weight now that she is hydrated?

it could very well be water weight. if you fed her in the last 4-5 days it could also be weight from prey; or if she has yet to poop (normal in recovering animals), she could have a big one waiting in the pipe. as long as she is acting normally otherwise i wouldn't worry.

thats what I figured...I was pretty thrilled to see she had gained weight instead of losing since she hadn't eaten for me in so long...some of it probably is the prey, but she only eats mice so that can't be too much of it...she has been a lot more active since moving into the snake room..a lot less foot traffic, no dogs and cats staring through the glass at her, etc...she was really enjoying a night out of her tank last night :D

weighed her again tonight (since she left me a really nice stinky poo last night) and she weighs 1152 grams...still a considerable weight gain since we got her a month and a half ago...especially after only 2 small meals :) also, caught her sneaking a drink late last night...wish I had my camera handy...she froze mid-drink and just held there as if she thought if she didn't move I wouldn't see her...lol..it was so cute!! she also spend a good portion of the night having some fun, apparently...she dug tunnels EVERYWHERE! she can start fresh tonight, because I had to fluff her substrate since it was starting to dry out in places...lol

the rehydration alone could account for a significant weight gain, most animals are around 60% water after all :) good to hear she's coming along nicely, fingers crossed for a clean shed soon!
