View Full Version : not being able to have a snake for what i feel is a funny reason
SooooSoooo if I was being totally brutal honest I have a lot of reasons why I I can't technically have snake right most important is I don't have totally all the money too
Lol i also own rats and four fairly old hamsters that just don't want to pass on ( not sayingg i want them too either.) No all these things are totally workable to work with. What is NOT however is where i live and whom i live with. My mom lol who is horrified of snakes.i kind of am afraid of them out in the wild and in open spaces, lol espically vipers like cotton mouths and copper heads however i love pythons and boas i think they are adorable.
It amusing to me cause I go into my local pet shop fairly frequently and get adorable., stare from the ball pythons. Lol and I can't. Get one even.though I could afford the cost.
My mother was terrified of snakes and she kinda passed it on to me through her horror stories as I was growing up. Now that I am an adult and don't live with her anymore I have a few snakes.
I agree ball pythons at pet stores are super adorable I'm not sure how I only managed to get one.
it does not help that they watch and follow me as I walk near them or past them with the "please take me home look going"

sit down and explain to your mom, that that is what you really want, and she's not going to take care of it,and that your responsible.tell her she wouldn't even have to look at it.
lol I doubt it would go so smoothly and its more just an out of respect thing to not do it while I live there. But I am probably getting a new job soon.
so can probably get one....in a couple of months when I get a place of my own.

Have you considered African cichlids? They've got great personality for fish. I'm sure your mother wouldn't object to an aquarium. You can move on to snakes when you move out.

I remember living with my parents and they said I could only have one snake. well... one thing led to another and 3 snakes and 25 Tarantulas later I invested in a lock on my bedroom door. lol Eventually when they found out I claimed they were all rescues (which some were) and I couldn't let them go. "I am trying to do a good thing and it keeps me out of trouble!!" lol
Oh good times!!! lol
Try to slowly gain her interest it these glorious creatures. Most people are afraid because it is genetically passed on from our ancestors. Another is that most people are not educated on the matter. Most tend to be afraid of things they do not know.

My step dad was terrified of snakes when my mom married him. It took forever to convince him that I should get one when I was 8.
Since then I have been very sneaky and gotten several into the house without him knowing for months and even when I asked for my boa I lied about how big they get lol. After I built an enclosure for the boa I rescued a few months ago and brought her home he was so overwhelmed that I was able to sneak a few more snakes and a tarantula in without him noticing.
He got over his fear though. Having so many in the house and seeing and hearing about them on a regular basis helped I think. He even reaches out and pets my biggest boa when I snuggle with her on the couch :)

Well it sounds like you have a plan so why not spend the time researching balls.. if that is for sure what you want. Then too you have more time to save for a really Ubar nice vivarium for it by the time you do move out into your own spot.

My mom is an "animal lover" as long as the animals were dogs and cats. I begged for a ball python. She thought it was scary. When my fiancé and I first moved in together we ended up finally getting one. He had all kinds of things as a kid. We now have a reptile room full of snakes and spiders. When my mom asks why, I tell her its her fault for not letting me have that ball python :D
I would also like to ad she told me to keep my ball python's "Stinger" away from her.. Such a girl..
she actually seems more open to the idea now then she was before...as long as I am the main one taking care of it. lol which I have explained many times I am not oppoused to... lol she is going to be leaving out of the state for roughly about 10 days and I am honestly thinking of being sneaky and getting a tank set up going on and picking up a baby while she is gone.
I mean I have two jobs now and if i want to get new pets thats truly one me at this point.
my current boyfriend does not seem to be a huge fan of snakes either...but for all the grief he gives me I think its more just him picking on me then anything...I don't truly think he would ever tell me I could never have a certain kind of animal in my life ever.
lol and not end up feeling badly about it

I remember the day i asked hubby if i could have a snake. He flat out refused, Nothing i said made a blind bit of difference. I then suggested that if he let me get a snake he could get the bigger tv he had been after. Needless to say he was begging me to bring home the snake.
Now trying to find a new gadget to bribe him with in order to get another. No Luck so far. :(
Lol I like it....should do that myself
