Well since we had to put my girl down, my dad OS letting me get a new snake. My dad and sister and probably boyfriend are all gonna pitch in to get me a baby. So suggestions? I've asked about a lot of snakes but I can't pick one! Open to all suggestions.except for maybe sand boas. I don't like them much ~ thanks in advance

how big are you looking to go? my corns are all around easy to care for, great all year eaters...still a newbie myself to my rainbows, and BP...my garter snake is easy to care for also, but has been persnickity lately about eating...

I'd say biggest 8-9 feet. IM a small girl but they'd have quite a few years to get that big!

i'm 5'6, 125 lbs...and I don't think I would want to handle anything bigger than 6 feet by myself..I'm pretty strong but safety is always key...there are a lot more people on here that know more about many different kinds of snakes, but as far as "cost effectiveness" corns are wonderful snakes...great tempered, etc...the rainbows are higher maintenance and require a lot of "initial" setup costs, etc, but also great tempered...ball pythons are easy to care for also...those are just the ones I know about first hand, I'm sure others will have more suggestions :) keep us posted!

I'd go with a colubrid also. Kingsnakes and MBK's are my favorite, corns and milks are beautiful too. I love the various honduran and black milk snakes. You can also go with a bull snake if you want something a little larger. I saw an albino paternless bull snake that was pretty stunning. The husbandry requirements for colubrids are pretty simple, they have really beautiful morphs and they're usually very good eaters. My only other choice would be a high yellow carpet python. Those are some amazing animals. Best wishes with your new snake and my condolences on your lost one.

I was thinking about maybe another carpet. My girl was awesome. I don't think I want a corn but I do like kings

carpets are awesome...hubby wants one in the future :) a carpet and a milk snake are the only other 2 that we don't have that we want in our collection..so far... ;)

Hurrok, I do love the adorable faces of hoggies! But the more I think, I'm leaning more towards either another carpet or a Columbian BCI.

have you thought about honduran milks? they get pretty big, many color varieties….

I would also suggest you look into higher end pine/bull snakes, for something 'different', they have some great colors as well and lots of neat little behaviors :)

and of course you know carpets, they are always fun too :) If you've not kep many colubrids though you might find you really enjoy them, they are pretty different from the pythons!

May be too small for you but Rosy Boas are great snakes. They are usually very 'tame'. Mine is very curious and will actually follow me around when I take him outside. I find it adorable.

They come it lots of localities, and are cheap to look after too. :)

Nobody ever does. I think they need to be more popular!

They feel so different than other snakes too. Some feel rough, some feel like leather, and rosies feel so shiny and smooth, almost artificial!

BCI Columbians get to around the size you are looking for. Most are very tame, docile and don't mind being handled regularly.

My new favorite is the Black Milk Snake! I highly recommend one! It's the most docile snake I have ever kept! Great eaters, males can grow over 6 feet! Cool color change as well. Bright as young ones then turn black in a couple years! Another advantage is they like it cool. I keep mine at room temp low 70's, so no heat source needed. :)

My vote is for another carpet but that matters not it is down to you to decide. There are so many to choose from so just take your time deciding before you buy.

Except for jags. They always seem to stun me.

But thanks Mikoh, I'm excited :)

What about a Savu python? They go through some crazy color changes as they age and are pretty unique. Plus they don't get very big which is nice too.

The liasis complex of pythons are a very cool group indeed. And although olive pythons do get long they are pretty slender snakes...

When I have more room I may just get my hands on some of these in the future.

Olive pythons are pretty nice as well, very long and slender compared to balls and such. I hear they can be a bit nippy but they are on my reptile wishlist along with savu's, and white lipped pythons :p
