Hey Guys!
Just received my little STP yesterday and upon arrival noticed that she had a funky coloration to her underbelly scales and an unusual black spot on her umbilical cord slit. I've never had to deal with scale rot or such on any of my animals before so having a hard time determining if it is or not.
Your opinions are much appreciated!
Thanks!

I'd apply a thin layer of antibiotic ointment daily and keep her on clean paper towel substrate. She should be fine after a shed.

hard to tell from the pictures, is this a very very young snake?
If so i agree with thawes, keep it on paper towel for a bit (good idea with any new snake imo), +/- antibiotic ointment, and just keep an eye on it.

hopefully someone who has kept/bred STPs can comment….

Judging by the condition of the scales, this snake was kept at less than desirable humidity levels. The scale rot is no doubt due to sitting on dirty/funky substrate as well. I would also apply a thin layer of ointment towards the base of the tail as well. Keep the paper towel moist and change daily to avoid any further fungal growth. Keep it at a steady 84 degrees. Cleanliness and ventilation are an absolute must with this species, due to the amount of water waste they expell. Hopefully your snake is fine after a shed...she should have a nice white, clean belly.
