also wondering! is anyone familiar with coconut fiber substrate? my local pet store uses it, and was thinking about using it for my rat snakes because they love to borrow in the moss in their hide!

New England Herpetoculture LLC - Home (http://www.neherpetoculture.com/). I order from them all the time. Great people to work with.

and the coconut fiber looks good. does it retain moisute nicely? i really would get to get it for my rat snakes. they always burrow in the moss.

They sale fake as well New England Herpetoculture LLC - Decor - Artificial Plants (http://www.neherpetoculture.com/decorplants). But I would just look locally for that tbh. Check craigslist.
Eco earth holds moister well but If you have a screen top and a heat source then all the moister will go right out. Though most rat snakes don't need high humidity anyway.

I get my eco-earth from fosters and smith online...less than $4 for a pkg of 3 compressed bricks...1 brick will do a 40 gallon tank with a shallow layer, I prefer to use 2...you can always hydrate it, then bake it and let it cool to dry it out if you prefer to not use it damp...you can buy it dry, but it costs more that way...
