Decided to change around the tank and add some more substrate. He's already started a burrow on the cool end :).

It's a mixture of playsand and topsoil (about 60/ 40 sand to topsoil ratio) and packed down very firmly. I originally had only a few inches in there, but noticed he kept trying to dig down to the bottom so decided to give him some more substrate to dig around in. He seems to really enjoy the new look.

Looks a bit to sandy. How does it do with burrows?

It actually holds burrows very well (almost better than what's in my moni's enclosure and that has more soil in the mix. The topsoil is very bulky, so I think that's why I needed to use more sand to get the proper consistency.

Poison, if you grab a normal bag of play sand and get it wet, after it dries a bit it actually holds a burrow very well if its deep enough. Kinda like when you go to the beach and get down below the very dry sand.
Has he made any burrows toothless? If you take the wooden plank, and angle it 45 degrees and bury half below, and the half exposed aimed at the basking light it will transfer more heat to the substrate below and he might make a burrow underneath using the plank as a nice warm ceiling. Will also be a good way to ensure his burrow doesn't collapse.

No doubt, but put any weight on the burrow and it will collapse.

He's started a burrow under the hide at the cool end, but hasn't done too much yet. The slab of wood is for one of his basking surfaces- he has a 90, 100, and 85 degree option, although he prefers the 100 temp one. I can stick in another piece of wood and half burry it though :).
