Mods please forgive this multi posting, given the circumstances.
As some of you are aware the government is trying to add retics, and the other 3 species of anaconda to the Lacey act. There is a petition to stop this(I will add the link to at the bottom). We've got less than a month to get another 99,000 signatures. So we need everyone and their entire families to sign(hopefully multiple times). We need to stop this NOW, they arnt stopping here, the boa constrictor complex is next; and who knows where this will end. Those of you without any giants, please don't feel indifferent about this. You are going to need the same support when your animals end up on the chopping block. The reptile community hasn't had the best history of coming togather, and we need to change this before the only reptile industry is an underground one. Thanks for your time, and please help your fellow herpers.

Spreading awareness of the situation is very commendable! I totally agree. However, suggesting in a public forum that everyone should run out and commit a form of voting fraud seems a bit counter productive. How would you feel if the bad guys attempting to legislate these laws found this post and used it as leverage against your cause? I signed it!...once.. My worthless 2 cents..

I don't a have a dog in "this" fight but I can see the writings on the wall. Having your rights taken away because of the sensationalist media, misinformed congressmen, and flat out fear mongering is disgusting and scary to say the least. Ask California 2nd amendment supporters what happens when you sit back and do nothing when your rights are being threatened. Hopefully the herp community can ban together and support our python and boid brothers and sisters!

I hate to poop in the middle of the parade but I really don't think retics should be in the pet trade.

This. I thought the "needed" amount is what we signed and then I realized we weren't even close. Not sure if a month is enough time to get that many sigs

It's not just them banning retics that's the problem. Because of our inability to stop them/ take this law to court they can add any species they want. Boas are next and I'd imagine they will go after varanids and tegus after that; as there are wild populations in Florida already.
Korbin how do you feel about dwarf and super dwarf locales in the pet trade?

Yeah I'm not feeling so great about this, but I'm not going to take it laying back. I'm trying to get ahold of anyone that could infulence masses of people, but to no avail so far.

I think your point is completely pointless. We have way too many idiots making hybrids and integrates to even try and argue that point. There is no way you could prove it was a pure dwarf.

Korbin I think you've come to expect arguments. I wasn't trying to make a point, but just asking what your opinion is on these locales in the pet trade. I can understand someone opposing mainland retics; retics have become my favorite snakes, but I have no plans on getting a full sized monster. I've got pure jampea, and pure kalatoas. I understand what you mean about the mixing of the smaller locales I'm not a fan. Although I disagree with the no way to prove pure comment.

I love and respect retics, will I ever own one? Doubtful. They just get to big for me. Is a dwarf species work a way into my life, probably. But who is anyone to say that this snake you can't own or sell. If a person can handle the snake and provide a good home for it, I don't see any problem. I would rather own a 20ft retic then a very venomous snake any day of the week.

Korbin are you against mixing of any locale of any species or just insular locales?
For example do you see the mixing of tully and palmerston jungle carpet pythons just as bad as mixing crawl cay and caulker cay boas?(mainland locales vs island locales). Where do you draw the line?

I would rather own the venemous snake =]. Only because I know I'd be able to provide more.(ample space, ample food). To be honest I think most retics and burms in captivity are kept in enclosures too small.

I don't like the fact that just anybody can get their hands on these giants. I do believe that the lacey act is pointless as I have said on another thread, there will still be enough giants in most states to go around. Mainly affects morphs.
By the way. Dwarfs are locales or captive genetic mutations?

Dwarves are subspecies. they evolved to stay smaller due to conditions on whichever island the locale in question came from. My jampea female is going on 3 years old and is only 8 feet or so long, and a little heavier then my biggest ball python. It's definitely not due to under feeding either she's a pig. And the kalatoas are the smallest of the locales with females topping out around 7 feet and males under 6.
I wish they would just enact a permit system, I'd be so happy.
Mikoh4792, I agree with the small cage comment. my tiny tics are going to get the same size cages 20+ foot retics get. And I still want to give them more climbing room.

I breed for color morphs so honestly mixing localities is a part of it. I am not down with peoplw breeding bci with bcc at all nor am I okay with people breeding a Peruvian with a Bolivian just for the giggles.
Usually when people breed for color morphs they sell the non visual babies as jets which means you know they are a mutt.

I don't know much about south american boa constrictors so I have to ask(if you know), do bolivians and peruvians naturally integrade in the wild?(since the two countries are next to eachother). Or are the two localities of boa isolated from each other by a barrier?
I personally don't see anything wrong with mixing naturally occuring integrades such as coastal and jungle carpet pythons, colombian bci and colombian bcc..etc
