View Full Version : Bedding Depth
My Black and White Lampropeltis(Dexter) is house in a 20 gallon tank.My question is there a proper depth of bedding you should use.I am using Zoo Med bedding the depth is between 1 1/2 to 2 inches in depth.

Hi 87GN, welcome to the forum. I'm not sure what the recommended substrate depth is but I generally use 2-3 inches of aspen bedding for my kingsnakes. That gives them room to burrow and still get the heat they need from the undertank heaters.

While I use Aspen substrate rather than Zoo Med bedding, that's about the same depth (2-3 inches) I use for my Hondurans. It gives them something to burrow into and yet is easy to spot clean as needed. I do a complete substrate change and cage cleaning about every 6 weeks.

I have a few piles of Spag Moss in the corners, mine like to hide under it.
