I originally joined this forum a few months ago to ask for advice on how to find a lost snake. Unfortunately, a family member had let the birds out and they accidentally crashed into my small terrarium containing my baby western hognose. By the time I got off work he was long gone, we tore apart the house but found nothing.

He went missing on October 8th, and just now tonight on December 1st, my cat found him in the Christmas box where we keep the ornaments. Fortunately, he was in really good health, my cat did not claw him (his hissing freaked her out lol) so now he's back and getting some much needed food and water.

I'm really happy, I thought he was gone forever.

Cats can be used to your advantage, depending on the personality. My cats are indoor cats so keep in mind this baby snake has been living in my house with two adult cats and was never harmed by them. Usually they won't kill snakes because they get a lot more defensive than other small animals, they probably could, but choose not to.

Chances are if your snake goes in the open for a brief moment, your cats will notice him. If there's someone home during that time, you'll most definitely get to your snake in time.
