Hey there ladies and gents! My name is Tony Jimenez and I am the proud new owner of a young red tail boa. My girlfriend surprised me with an early Christmas present :D Laura has had more experience with reptiles than I have. I have owned anoles, turtles, and a corn snake as a kid. I later had Veiled Chameleon chameleon. She has had a green iguana, a bearded dragon, a uromastyx, a ball python, a Brazilian rainbow boa, and now we own the red tail! We currently have it in a 10 gallon setup with a heating pad underneath, bark substrate, Zoo Med ceramic infrared heat emitter, a heat lamp, driftwood and some fake branches! This is going to be a learning experience for me and I am very excited! I've used car forums, but I never thought I would be joining a reptile forum! :D Here are some pics.

Thanks guys! I am very lucky :D It was only fitting since I am Colombian as well. lol! Zilla bark blend^ to be exact I'm a bit nervous since it is made with Douglas fir bark... I have heard not to use pine or cedar and I think Douglas fir is a pine. I will search...

Hello and welcome.

20 gallons is the recommended minimum for a baby and they'll outgrow it quickly, but it looks nice. :)

so cool! I have learned from experience that my snakes like privacy...I used black posterboard to black out the sides of their tank and back (or I used decorative paper for the back)...my rainbow boa didn't eat for 5 weeks until I did this...and my new python has been out and exploring like mad since I did her tank...

That's a nice red tail for a Colombian! I'm curious to see how much it keeps. :)
