View Full Version : Musk in enclosure?

About 2 weeks ago I was spot cleaning my MBK's cage and I spooked her and she vibrated her tail and musked. She has always been laid back up to that point. Now when I get her out she will musk occasionally and is a little flighty. My question is that if a snake musks inside the enclosure should you clean and disenfect and replace substrate right away?

I would simply spot clean it as if it were poop. :)

Ammit did that when I got her, I just wiped it down with a wet paper towel

I agree you should be able to just spot clean, but Im curious why you think you have to disinfect?

I didn't spot clean after and I'm not exactly sure where in the aspen she musked. Cage cleaning day anyway today. I have noticed a change in her behavior and I'm thinking that the musk had something to do with the change her normally chilled behavior. Thanks!

Yeah. Ammit also began to change her behavior. She isn't coming out as much anymore. I'm guessing it's from the season change

I always disenfect after cleaning cages and a light spray of provent mite spray to new substrate and hides minus water dish.

Oh yes, now that you mention its normal cleaning day I understand. I thought you were going to disinfect because of the musk. I do deep clean at least 1x a week as well though it depends how messy their surprises are for me throughout the week :P

Yeah do a full clean once a month and spot clean between all the surprises. Not too bad with just 4 snakes. :D
