Mellik's mamma

Hi,

I just wanted to introduce myself. I literally just joined. My "child" is a ball python (royal python). I have always loved snakes and used to catch them as a child (i would always let them go or they would let themselves go). Now, thanks to helping out a friend I OWN MY OWN!! Trying to learn as much as I can to make sure I am a good owner. Honestly, I feel a bit guilty for OWNING something, but Mellik also owns me. The previous owners said it was a boy (but I get feelings that it is a girl) and now they told me they really are not sure! Any suggestions on how to find out on my own and not stress Mellik out? I would take him/her to a vet or at least have one lined up just in case, but I know that can be very stressful as well (any hints on how to make that not so stressful for Mellik? And also sign that they actually know snakes..)

I will admit, I bought Mellik thinking I was already knowledgeable, but I am realizing I still have a lot of questions that will be answered in time (I mostly mean Mellik's own habits. I have all the basics covered. (any good, trustworthy book?) Don't worry, Mellik is a happy and healthy snake, but I want to know EVERYTHING to ensure the best life ever.

Thanks everyone and HELLO!!!

Ball Python Manual (The Herpetocultural Library. Series 300): Philippe De Vosjoli, Phillipe Devosjoli, Roger Klingenberg, Barkers: 9781882770281: Amazon.com: Books (http://www.amazon.com/Ball-Python-Manual-Herpetocultural-Library/dp/1882770285)
"The Ball Python Manual" is a decent book on caring for Balls. The information in the one I have is a little out of date because it was written in the early 90s, but there have since been reprints and I'm sure their info must be up to date now. As with any pet, your best advice will usually come directly from a knowledgeable breeder. There are some on the forum and I'm sure they can answer your questions.
