We are newish to the group (one of us has a profile here), though we've been stalking the posts from time to time.
We're a few reptile lovers who have recently started doing free educational work in the local community and in addition we are hoping to start doing some school events, and even parties. We're hoping to connect to other educators and event/party doers, get some tips and advice, share our favorite stories, and spread the love of reptiles to kids around the world.
We have an ever expanding collection, all but the two newest are sweethearts that love being out on our adventures (we're working on the new ones)
Snakes:
-Amazon Tree Boa, M, Lestat. His previous owner gave him to us when he could no longer take care of him. He was afraid of being bit, and we understand why (he had an attitude). However, we've been working with him and his attitude has improved a hundred fold.
-Ball Pythons, normals, Jahi (F) and Maphisto (M)
-Black Necked-Garter Snakes, Bael (M) and Nina (F)
-Charcoal Corn, Samael (M)
-Broad-banded Water snake, Uroborus (F)
-Texas Longnose, Bee (M)
Other:
-Tokay Gecko, Garchomp (M). He's our other new boy. He's doing really really well, already past biting and won't even bark anymore (which makes the kids a little sad). We're still not 100% comfortable letting the kids hold him, but we let them pet him. We're working on getting him harness trained so that we won't have to worry about him jumping.
-2 Scorpions, M
-2 Hissing Roaches (waiting on babies!)
-Millipede
-Darkling Beetles (cause kids like them for some reason and they are easy pets)
We're working towards getting a Leopard Gecko, a Red Tail Boa, and a tarantula (our male recently) as our next future additions. Ideally, we'd like to get them next year, but with our name spreading, we never know when something will be given to us.
We've done one event so far (Halloween) with a great turn out! Over 50 kids, plus their parents. We ran out of treat bags and had to give out prize bags. Had a bunch of our animals, some crafts, games, prizes- everyone had a blast and a lot of kids were begging their parents for a reptile by the end of the show. It was a great experience and we can't wait for our upcoming Winter Event!
Look forward to chatting with people here!
