Hey everyone,
I just got my hands on a sweet 'cagesbydesign' custom enclosure. The whole thing is around 7.5 feet tall but since there are separate compartments on the top for heat lights and at the bottom for storage, the actual amount of space that the snake has is 4 feet of length, 3 feet of depth, and 4.5 feet height. It has 3 ledges that are bolted into the back wall and are at different heights. I know boa constrictors are semi arboreal when younger but once full grown they pretty much stay on the ground so im not sure how much use the ledges would get (although i have seen online vids of people with similar enclosures and their adult boa use the ledges). Anyway, is this size enclosure better suited for a male or female red tail? I would assume male, but is it enough space for a girl? I've read 6 feet long by 2 feet deep is a good enclosure size for a female. while i dont have the 6 foot length, ive got more depth than a 6x2 and much more height. Not sure if a big female will even use the extra height though once full grown. Let me know what you guys think! I have a rainbow boa, a spotted python, 2 kenyan sand boas, and a 12 year old Cal King currently, so this would be my first red tail! I'm super excited but i want to do this right and get the correct sex for my tank size. Thanks everyone!:)
