I love those black milksnakes knox. How long before they turn completely black?
Usually about 2 years depending on the genetics. Some from the same clutch can turn completely up to a year apart.
Very nice, keep us updated with pictures of how s/he changes over time
Will do! Thanks for the kind words

These were high on my wish list too Steve as I hear they're one of the larger milks. Just don't know if I want another all black snake.
They are the perfect alternative to an Eastern Indigo if you can't afford one. VERY gentle, reaching 5-6 feet, and kept at room temperature. I provide no heat source at all.
Being from the mountains of Costa Rica and Panama, they are cool climate snakes. 72-76 degrees daytime temps are perfect. Can drop into the mid 60's at night - which my home never does.
Also, BIG hatchlings for a colubrid. This guy is a month and a half old, and would dwarf a Rat or King the same age.
Very cool snake!

That's interesting, I didn't know much about them. Very neat that you can keep them at room temp.

I wish thered be a "morph" of black milksnakes that didn't go through the ontogenic change. I think black milksnake patterning is the best looking out of all milksnakes.
They are beautiful hatchlings, for sure!

Oh man, I've been looking at pictures and videos of these guys and I'm falling in love. Never thought I'd like a colubrid but they're so cool!

Lookin good brother Knox! And a little darker!:D
Yeah - I take the blame for the slow change. I haven't been feeding large enough mice. He is now on adult smalls, so that should help.
Thanks, Ziggy and Steve! He is still a joy.

So these guys turn all black? That would suck because I love the Coral look alike pattern and wanted to get one of these after I get our Cali King. :/

Yeah they turn black', but as far as temperament, they are imo; one of the most docIle snakes around. And great eaters as well.He is my favorite snake in my small collection. Plus they like it cool.I'm hoping he grows past the 6 foot mark but tI'm will tell.

Do any breeds of Milk or Corns keep this color pattern through their whole lifetime?

Yeah all of the milks and corns keep their patterns. The colors may lighten or darken depending on species genetics. The black milk is the only one that I know of that changes.

Have you looked at the Honduran Milk Snakes or Nelsons Milk snakes? They come in that color scheme.
