Anyone heard of this before?

Definitely could turn an enclosure into a cool display, or enhance one that is already pretty sweet to look at. Price is a little steep for lighting, but for a nice build for a display animal, like a GTP or JCP, I think it would be worth it to add to the enclosure.

If you added the noise, seems like it would stress out a snake. Also snakes like GTP's need to dry out, but if this ran until the humidity was good it would be fine.

True, although the system does not have sound or misting capabilities. I am solely speaking of the lighting conditions it provides.

The fact that it simulates a natural cycle of light (dawn to dusk), cloudy, night time, and "lightning" is what I was more geared to when saying it would be a nice addition to an enclosure.

The video is of someone's vivarium set-up that has this lighting system intergrated into it. I linked to this so people could see the effects it has in an enclosure.

It would be interesting to see what type of programming is used for this set-up. I have a decent amount of programming and electronic knowledge from school, and I don't think it would be that hard to create a similar system with the ability to program lighting conditions (i.e. length of day and sun position) relative to the native region of the species being housed.

I had something similar for my reef aquarium and also used multiple lighting effects when I kept dart frogs. It's more for us than them, of course, but pretty neat :).

Never had anything that did thunderstorms, though, don't see the point of that :p. Seems like it would stress out the animals.

edit: With reef aquariums, one school of thought was that lighting like this was less stressful for WC animals. They're not used to their environment going from totally dark to extremely bright with the flip of a switch (literally). And indeed, WC fish often "jump" when the lights are turned on and seem calmer when it's a gradual change. So I can see this being useful for WC reptiles, too.
