So, I've been to many of my cities pet stores, all being the same.. 0-2 snakes, a few beardies. All very poorly cared for. recently I heard about a pet store that's relatively close. I went their a few weeks ago to check it out... They had a few BCI's, a few Ball Pythons, Veiled Chameleons, Crested Geckos Tokay Geckos, Savannah monitors, Chinese Water Dragons, Milk Snakes, Frogs, Turtles, Tortoises... Lots and lots of reptiles, all had EXCELLENT enclosures and husbandry... Really great place. They have every size frozen rodent from extra small pinky mice to 2x large rabbits!! Really great place... Low prices... Friendly employees... I applied there today and they seemed impressed with my resume and my collection + experience with animals so I hope I get this job.... Wish me luck!

Nice! What will you be doing?

Hopefully my primary job will be reptile care. That's what I opt as my desired position in my application :) I've already helped them get two of their new wild caught BP's to eat so I think I've already made a good impression! Basically they got a shipment of three W/C Ball Pythons. One was injured, mean, and hasn't eaten in the four months that they've had him.
One has been eating perfectly, and then the other one will not eat either. I am basically always hanging out there on my days off of work, so the employees and owner were comfortable enough to let me attempt to get their snakes eating. So I just took two small (maybe 2 gallon) enclosures, stuck the snakes and the food in there, ans then put the two gallon enclosures in their normal enclosures. I told them to leave them alone over night, and then I came back a few days ago/the day after we did this, and they said one of the snakes ate! :) the other one has a very very horribly injured tail (it's paralyzed) and he's really mean, so I took him out with a hook, one of the employees firmly held his neck (not squeezed.. I stressed not to squeeze the neck), and i wiggled the mouse into his mouth. After it got far enough into his mouth, he wrapped and ate the meal!! I only resorted to assist feeding because they'd tried almost everything I knew about... Leaving it's food in it's enclosure over night, braining, F/T, Live, Scenting, Etc, Etc.... So I think that definitely boosted my chances of getting a job there.

Good luck; it sounds like your experience will be an asset to the store and the reptiles there. I just recently have learned just how much there is to keeping our reptiles healthy and thriving. Good job on the assist feeding - sounds like sometimes it's what has to be done. That was a good idea, leaving the snake & mouse in the smaller tank - the w/c snake was probably too stressed to eat with all the store lights on and everything. I really don't like the W/C business (I had a W/C skink with feeding problems) but it sounds like these 2 have a chance now.

Thanks :) I am glad that me and the store employees were able to figure it out. At least now they know how to feed those two snake in the future! Hopefully they can get the injured one to the vets ASAP

Good luck! I've been trying to get a job at my local pet store too-it should be easier now that I'll be done with football and stuff soon. It's a good store, but they kinda have issues with monitor husbandry. I hope I can help with that. :D
