Good morning folks,
Yesterday I ordered a red blood hatchling from BackWater Reptiles and I am super excited. Two questions, what kind of setups do you guys keep your bloods in? and also has anyone had any dealings with this breeder? He was very friendly and quite knowledgeable. Anyway, just wanted to share my new addition and my excitement. I shall upload pics and maybe a video of the unboxing.

I've bought a few snakes from Backwater. I was happy with them. Snakes came neatly boxed up and in perfect health.

I bought my dubia colony through backwater and had an awesome experience, prompt replies to all questions, quick delivery etc. That being said i have read many reviews since and have not found any other pleased customers.

I found that keeping them in a plastic tote or tub works best. It makes keeping the temp and humidity up easy. Be sure to have two or more hides. For the first few months keep it on paper towels. A water bowl big enough for them to soak place close to the warm end of the cages. This way it help keep the humidity up, plus if it soaks a lot the water won't be to cool. If you can get some Provent A Mite and treat the cage before the snake arrives. This should be done with any new snake. You will want small tight fitting hide to help it feel secure. I use under tank heat pads with all my cages.

Baby Bloods stress very easy and have to have high humidity. Never keep them in a glass aquarium.

Just to add to what Chuck said, if your hatchling blood hasn't had it's first shed yet (which can take a few months) be sure to wet down your paper towels. Baby bloods can dehydrate quickly and look wrinkly.

Thank you guys so much for the awesome information. I currently have a 25qt tub with newspaper an UTH a water dish, and 2 hides on hot side and cold side. I also allowed enough newspaper so if the snake chooses to burrow it will be able to. I am expecting her to arrive before 11am today so I will post some pictures of my new girl. I am going to avoid handling her before her first shed to ensure the snake does not become overly stressed out. Again, thank you for all of the helpful information.

Just be sure to control your UTH with a thermostat. I keep mine at 82 degrees, uncontrolled those heaters can reach 120-130 degrees.

She is here and is in great health. They did a great job making sure she came with plenty of heat packs. Seems to have a calm attitude, no strikes at all, no hissing. I am more than pleased. Here are a few pics of Cleopatra...

I know 2 people who have ordered from them: two BRBs and a cornsnake, all healthy and alive. I've read a lot of bad reviews too but I'm not sure! :P beautiful snakes. :)

For a hide box, take a small plastic tub with lid, cut hole in the lid then put damp Spagum moss in it and be sure to keep it moist at all times, its what I use for my Borneos

UPDATE- So my baby ate a small mouse on the 29th and had a full shed which I found today. I have to say as far as her temperament she is one of the most relaxed snakes I have had the pleasure of handling. I have handeled her twice since purchasing her and she has not even so much as hissed at me.

So as far as my opinion of Backwater Reptiles, they get a thumbs up!
