View Full Version : Killer Bloods?
Been kicking around this part of the forum for a couple days, and I noticed there seems to be a bit of negativity against the "attitudes" of blood pythons (I'm guessing from folks who've never kept them) and they don't make good pets. Sure, some specimens can be a handful or downright ornary...but the same can be said for boas, carpets, or any other medium size snake species, right?
Are they the right snake for everybody? Probably not. Can they be a good first snake? I believe so, armed with the proper knowledge and commitment to proper husbandry, which species wouldn't make a good first snake (besides venomous, and giants of course)?
I thought I'd share a photo of my youngest boy Dylan age 6, who has absolutely no issue handling one of my adult bloods...she's very vocal, but a big sweetheart.
These aren't the monsters people seem to think they are, and are truly a rewarding species to work with.
Thanks
Terry

I don't really understand the negativity either but I see it a lot while browsing. I know some people don't like them due to their inactivity... they come across as "boring". I do agree that they are easy to work with when you understand the animal, just like any other species. They CAN be temperamental... but most of what I read isn't like hateful snake 24/7. Seems to be when a blood's having a bad day, it's best just to leave them be. But other days they are fine to handle. I love my blood... she can be pissy occasionally, but on those days she's just huffy puffy and I don't push. Haven't been tagged by her but my BP has gotten me a few times, which I find interesting since they're chalked up as meanies. I love that at full size, she'll look like a stubby giant :D. I love the different colors and morphs. Some of the most beautiful snakes IMO. I get the feeling it's like a love or dislike... kinda not a lot of in between lol.

I don't get it either, I had 1.2 bloods that I sold a little over a year ago. Both females were wonderful, calm as can be animals. The male was aggressive but I believe he was wild caught and I aquired him as an adult. Still he was very easy to work with and I never got bit in the 3 years I had him. I miss my bloods, they're definitely one of my favorites to work with.

Yeah this is my home away from home. I knew the name looked familiar it just didn't click in my head. You really need to show your beautiful Bloods off and show everyone what make bloods so amazing. Nice to have you here Terry. :)
