Finally some new cages!!!

I’ve wanted to upgrade from my aquariums to more “professional” looking cages for quite a while. I did a lot of shopping around and web surfing to visit reptile forums reading reviews etc. I finally decided on ProLine cages from Ed Lilly at Constrictors Northwest. http://constrictorsnw.com/cagessupply/plmodularcages.html (http://constrictorsnw.com/cagessupply/plmodularcages.html) Ed makes his cages out of marine grade HDPE plastic. This stuff is very strong and dense enough to prevent urates and feces from staining the cage which is a problem with some of the other PVC type materials used make cages. Ed is a great guy to work with and his cages are beautifully designed. They are shipped unassembled, but all the joints are dovetailed so everything slides together like a breeze. I took my time, so each cage took me about 30 minutes to assemble. There is no glue required to assemble the cages which is a big plus because I was worried about fumes for my snakes. Bottom line, Ed is a great guy to do business with, terrific products and to top it off, he provides free shipping. I just wanted to share a very good experience with others who may be in the market for new cages. I have no affiliation with Ed or ProLine cages other than a very satisfied customer.

Here's a quick shot of the ProLine cages. They are the Carpet Python model which is 36" long X23" deep x14" tall. I liked this model because it was a bit taller than the usual 11 or 12 inches offered on other cages which look a bit too much like a cave to me.

The bottom cage houses my Ghost Honduran Milk Snake and the top cage is still empty, awaiting the arrival of my latest Honduran Milk Snake, an Extreme Hypo. The cages are each lighted with a single 24" thin line fluorescent under counter light from Lowes.

I opted to use the 11x11 inch, 14W Ultratherm under the cage heat mats. These provide a nice warm spot under one of the hides and the other hide in not heated. The sides of the ProLine cages extend down about 3/16 inch like feet, which creates a space under the cage that accommodates the heat pad. This design also helps secure the cages so they don't slide around when they are stacked.

Did you put them under neath the tank or use the plastic way like they show in the how to part of their website?

I put the heat mats under the tank and it seems to heat the spot perfectly, even with a layer of Aspen over the spot. At only 14W, this heat mat should not be able to over heat the cage so I don't need a thermostat.
