Bought a Dumerils a gew days ago and tried feeding in separate tub like with my brb but to no avail,i was wondering since dums are ambush predators should i feed in its enclosure or should i put aspen in its feeding enclosure so it can ambush from in there

Give it a week at least to get used to it's new home. Then feed in it's enclosure.

You should always feed in the cage not in a separate tub. Moving a snake to feed them stress them out. Plus then you have to move them back after eating which stress them and can cause them the regurgitate. Plus if they are like mine as soon as they smell food if you mess with them your getting bit.

I feed all of my snakes in separate tubs except for my dumerils. I feed him in his enclosure for the reasons you mentioned, he is burrowed up to the tip of his nose in the substrate, and springs up and strikes as soon as I dangle the mouse in front of him.

IMO, it's always better to feed in the same enclosure the snake lives in. I would wait a week. Then I would try again, in his regular enclosure. I would not move him at all. This us much easier on the snake than moving it to a feeding tub.

do what they said and feed in the enclosure. also dums are in fact ambush hunters. if you see your snake dug under the substrate with his/her face sticking out, just drop the rat right on them and they will go for it, mine do anyway. and never try to grab them if they are under the substrate....i got bit like that a long time ago. lol

Thanks guys,my brb has no problem feeding in a separate tub,but she is very calm and doesnt ever seem to get stressed out but i feel like the Dumerils is going to be a diffent story as far as feeding goes.ive observed her quite often buried in the aspen nose and eyes exposed only,i take it thats how they eat in the wild so with her im going to feed in her enclosure. ..im fairly new to snake keeping, but i assume snakes are like people as far as having completely different personalities, eating habits,etc...

its always best to feed a snake in it's eclosure,as thats where it feels most secure mate

I fed my dum in her enclosure and she ate,i had to leave her alone with it,but she did eat..im still going to feed my brb in separate tub because that's what ive always done and she snatches them up immediately and never seems stressed. Shes very calm and easy to deal with, but my dumerils seems on edge a bit more.maybe it'll take a while longer for her to settle in. ..again,thanks for the input

I agree on feeding in enclosure.

Out of curiosity, however, are/were you using the same feeding tub for both animals?

If you're scared about cage aggression from feeding, which isn't very common just learn to use a hook when taking the snake out for handling.
