Hi there everyone!

My wife and I got our first snake about 3 weeks ago from repticon. She's a 3month old California Kingsnake that we named, Luna. She is black with cream color patterns. She is the most beautiful snake I have ever seen. (Yeah I may be biased)
Luna is very curious and active. She's never struck or musked. She is an EXCELLENT eater! She's already eaten 3 times and has scarfed them all down in 10minutes or less. We have her in a 20 gallon tank. For the first couple weeks we had her in there with a piece of cardboard dividing it in half because she's so small we knew she didn't need the whole thing yet. But alas...she finally got under...and over the cardboard piece. The obsession with getting past it seemed to be stressing her out, so we removed it and now he has the whole enclosure. She seems to be just fine. We only have on hide, one water bowl, and one plastic plant thing. Want to keep it somewhat simple for her for now. She loves it.
She's shed once with us and it came off in one piece! We were so proud.
Ever since we got her I've been doing as much research as possible about kingsnakes. I want to know everything about them and know all the different methods of caring for them.
We love her so much already. We sit on the couch, one on each end, with a blanket over us. And she just slithers back and forth between us. She is such a great snake. We went searching for a MBK, but fell for her right away.
I am still trying to figure out what kind of morph she is. I want to say she's the closest to a newport. But she has like 3 different patterns on her. So, I just don't know.
Anyway, nice meeting all of you and can't wait to nerd out about all of our snakes with you. :) If you have any advice and/or any idea what kind of morph Luna might be...lemme know!

Welcome to the forum. Nice snake Britt, she has a gorgeous pattern. I love kingsnakes. I have a Cal King and a MBK. Sounds like youre off to a good start with Luna. You should have at least 2 hides though. One on the hot side and one on the cool side. Also, how are you heating your tank? Make sure your heat source is controlled by a thermostat. Other than that they're a breeze to care for. Cool pic of her in her water dish, I've never seen either of my snakes soaking. Best wishes.

Hey and welcome! Cool snake! Awesome pattern! I'm partial to kings as well! Especially to my MBK!

Hi! Thank you! We use a heat lamp. Right now we use a 40watt bulb for the day and a 40watt nightime bulb for the night. The hot side stays right around 80-82 during the day. When we got her from the breeder he said he had been keeping her at 78. Now that winter is almost here, we're gonna get higher watt bulbs. :) And we have a long plastic plant thing that stretches between the hot and cold side and she likes to be in that on both sides. But I'll probably grab her another hide next time I go get her food. Thanks for the advice!
Yeah...she hung out in her water bowl for an entire morning the day after her shed. It was so cute. She just sat there with her lil head resting on her tail.
