The anticipation is killing me. A few months ago a close friend of mine told me that her father had a JCP but that he no longer had the time to care for her like he wanted to. She knew I performed with snakes so her father agreed to allow me to take her since I can give her a lot of time and have experience with large snakes. The only problem was the snake was a good 700+ miles away which is a 10 hour drive I don't feel comfortable making alone and so its been a waiting game for a few months trying to find somebody who had the free time to go up with me. Getting the gas money and the time to line up right was annoyingly difficult.
Well, said friend had to make a trip up to Virginia and offered to pass through town and grab the JCP and bring her home to me since it would be on the way. So I'm pretty stoked right now. I spent the day adding some finishing touches to the 6x3x3 I have ready for her. Primarily just newspaper and such right now. I had a larger water bowl for her but in the time I've been waiting to get her I wound up taking in a few other snakes. She has available water. I'll be picking up a larger bowl within the week. I'll make some adjustments I'm sure and after doing some drilling today I'm interested in trying to put a dowel or something for climbing (there is a ledge my boas used to love sitting on) but this is what I have for right now. Experimenting will come within the next week as I learn the personality of the snake and such.
She says shes about an hour and a half out right now. I'll take a picture or 2 of the enclosure and add some camera pictures she sent me. I'll update when she gets in!

From what I hear, and I'm just regurging what I've heard, there are 3 or so different types differing between lengths of 6 ft, 9 ft and 12 is ft on the large side? Her owner says he last measured her out at 9.5 feet. If she is comfortable enough with me and not stressed by the move, I'll see about taking pictures and measurements. He says she's really relaxed and docile so hopefully she'll be chill.
They're about 20 minutes away or so.... EEeeee.... I'm happy. I'm very happy to finally be welcoming her home. This will be MY first large python. I mean, I grew up with a pair of burmese and I have a 9 ft boa, but this will be my first large python of my own. I'm beaming right now, haha.

Hisdavilia is home at last and in her new enclosure for the night. She's pretty curious right now, but it's lights out for this house. We'll have more time to get acquainted in the morning when she is, hopefully, less edgy about the trip.

That bulb in the enclosure has got to go. She will rip it off. Nice big jungle. What is she about 8'? Adult carpets are fantastic. Nice pick up. Do you know her age?

The owner says she's about 9.5' and she's bigger than my largest boa who is 9 ft so it's a good measurement. I am unsure of the age, I will ask. What do you suggest as an alternative to the bulb for heating?

Yeah I'm really not entirely sure what kind she is other than a carpet python of some sort but the friend said she was a JCP.

If that bulb is hot your snake will burn itself today. No joke. I suggest a rhp. Safe and easy to install. But yeah that buld is very dangerous in its current location.
9ft is huge. I would also suggest she is not a pure jcp. But imho , who cares. Nice carpet.

RHP? Reptile lingo. I don't know it. Google searching is bringing back something about a rolling hills prep school and since I'm pretty sure you're not telling me to send my snake to prep school...???
I don't honestly care what she is exactly either. To me, she's another snake I'm going to care for and be happy with. It doesn't matter what kind of snake she is.
Nice looking big carpet, congratulations. As mentioned get that bulb out of there or get a guard on it before some harm comes to your snake.
RHP = radiant heat panel ;)

Looking more at your picks I would consider a new enclosure. The doors don't look very secure.
Great looking guy you got! I do think it is a coastal, but that is just my opinion.

Plus way too big for a Jungle, my 16 YO female is only 8 and a half, but still a very cool looking snake, enjoy it regardless

Not all jungles look like that. There is so much variability when it comes to jungles, some even look like coastals. There are also differences in size between the different locales such as those that originate from the Artherton tablelands which can get to huge sizes and those that originate from the lowlands like palmerstons and cowley beach.
Trueblue should be able to help, he's been working with carpets for a long time.

My adult carpets do not use them for anything other than a perch. I also do not have hides in my adult carpet enclosures.

I think its a coastal. Nothing to do with looks, just considering the size. Looks very large ..Nice snake though.

any hides?
I didn't put in any hides because the owner said the same thing Terranaut said. Never uses them for anything other than climbing. I woke up this morning to find her perched on the shelf.

i use non light emmiting ceramic bulbs, with a bulb guard and thermostat in most of my carpet tanks...
the Diamonds have light emmiting heat sources

good point mate
imo Jungles can vary a lot in looks...
over here Jungles are thought of as being,a high yellow, with a deep velvet black in colour...
but when you look at NATIVE Ozzy jungles, very very few of the wild Jungles, look anything like what snake keepers in the UK and Europe class as jungles

Yup. Line bred for high yellows. Mine are more natural looking with white and yellow. I wish I knew the linage of mine but do not :(

She's actually a very docile snake. The girl in the blue shirt (who is a little over 6 ft tall if that doesn't show length of the snake, haha) is actually the friend who gave her to me and the night we brought her home she insisted pulling her out to show she was in good condition and comfortable and she really is. She's well settled.

Abraxxos,-
As a few have said your snake is a coastal carpet by the looks it.
Mikoh4792 is pretty much right on the money with his comment.
Athertons, which are still classified as cheynei grow large, around 8-10 feet and are found in different habitats such as rain forest thru to dry open woodland.
What i refer to as "true" jungles are only found in the coastal lowlands and are always found in or around dense Borneo style rainforest,(this is why i refer to them as ("true" jungles). They range from 3.5 feet to round 6 feet. 6 feet is an absolute monster for the lowland form, most only get to around 4 - 5 feet. The further inland you go the larger they get untill they become coastals.
The form of jungle that you guys seem to have overseas seems to be the atherton form. I say this because of the size that they get to.
cheers,
Rob.
