So it is common knowledge that breeding a female ahead of it's time can result in harm or death to the female.
BUT...
I am considering breeding my male jag (he is 2.5 yrs old). Other than a lack of action being the only negative thing and thus no eggs I can see no reason to not introduce him to a female.
Just double checking with you guys incase I missed something. I mean will he have poor sperm quality or well anything else you can think of.
Thanks

i think with males in the animal world, they typically dont breed at younger ages due to competition from older, larger males. I cant see any lasting mal-effects like i would expect in a female; it just may be that the sperm quality is less etc (issues that he would 'grow into'.
i'd be interested to see what others thought though.

You'll be fine with trying him.
I'm not a fan of breeding early but, 2.5 is fine for males. I've bred them at that age and had perfect clutches.
Not just with Carpets but, BHPs, Womas, Spotteds as well.
Just cool him enough and you'll be golden.

Males are usually sexually mature by about 17-18 months of age. It's perfectly fine to breed a 2.5 year old male.
