Hi! I'm new to the forums. I have a Honduran milk snake named Spike. I've had him for, um, I forgot. Two? Three years? I should check. He lives on my desk and I live at my desk. It seems to work out. It's a big desk.
He's a lovely black and red morph with those deep, jewel-toned reds and oranges milk snakes are known for. I named him after Spike, from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, because Spike wears black and red and has fangs. I have no idea if Spike the Snake is male or female. I have no intention of breeding so sexing seemed to be one of those Help! Aliens Kidnapped Me and There Were Probes! kind of dealios rather than critical, need to know information.
Spike lives in a bioactive viv with plants and hidey holes. I found a place that sells terrarium plants, which means super-mini sized plants that would take up some of empty spots in the viv without overtaking it. He uses the African Violet leaves as cover. He'll burrow into the substrate and poke his head out of the dirt, under the violet leaves, and watch me do my thing. He thinks I can't see him. He never liked the arrangement of the begonia. He kept moving it around. I never thought a snake would garden, but he did. He probably just like the way the bottom of the plant felt, honestly. Unfortunately, the begonia is not as hardy as the violet and has gone on to the compost heap in the yard.
My kiddo has a bearded dragon that's about 6 years old. She's been with him since junior high and he just college. My long-suffering spouse has learned to enjoy Spike, except at feeding time.
So, that's me. Hello!
