This is Queen Mama the ribbon snake. She's my go to snake for relaxed reptilian company. I was fiddling with my camera while she was bein' a good little lap snake, and decided to snap a pic or two to share. :)

Nice! I thought ribbons were rather skittish?

Oh yeah, usually. If my experience is anything to go by they tend to really hate handling (but I've only dealt with ~10 heh). She's just atypically sweet, really hard to rile up. She'd spend a whole day laying on your shoulder if you let her, which is a bit odd too actually, seeing as they normally aren't the type to sit still.
Abnormalities in 'typical species specific behavior' is one of the most interesting things to me. I wish there were statistics on that to investigate, seeing as I've seen so many 'abnormalities' I wonder if they're actually normal. (Never known a watersnake who bites, for example.) Thoughts? Anyone with similar experiences, dissimilar?
Oh oh and one more question, anyone here have garters AND ribbons, who could give us a personal comparison? :)

Awesome snake!
The one female Puget garter I had was a sweety, my favorite snake! The male one turned into a PITA although not too bad and that was mostly my fault for not handling him much and then being unable to avoid flinching when he took to biting me, even though it didn't hurt at all, thus encouraging him to bite all the more.
The Ribbon I had for a while was the most horrible snake it's ever been my displeasure to deal with, biting, flailing and musking copiously anytime one tried to do anything at all with him.
