The baby retic arrived YAY. I just wanted to show you guys. First retic ever!!
I keep boa constrictors for a while. This is a step up to my reptile experience. Also my favorite snake in this beautiful world. Hope you like him or her

Also. Any good pieces of advice or tips regarding raising and successfully keeping this baby is greatly appreciated

Hook training. Retic have one heck of a feeding response and you want to teach them early to know when your going to handle them. Also start planning it adult sizes cage now, because they grow very fast the first couple years.

BTW nice looking Retic.

Yes. Hook training is a must. I've got a retic that isn't the nicest. She's still quite defensive, but manageable with a hook.

Beautiful retic! They're my favorite species, too. :D Unfortunately, they're a bit out of my reach right now in terms of budget. I've still got some space I could wriggle one into, but I couldn't afford to feed one right now, or to make/buy it's final cage. lol

Hah, my jampea female is named Nagini aswell. I'm geussing you're about the same age as me(early to mid 20s) and grew up reading the HP books aswell. Take everyone seriously when they say to start hook training imediatly, retics are 2 completely different snakes in and out of there cages. I used to keep monitor lizards, and would compare them to the argus monitor of snakes(I hope this refrence isn't lost here). Also do yourself a favor and put her in a cage with 2 doors. One to feed, one for anything else. retics arnt like other snakes, they are a lot more intelligent(only things ive worked with that come close are bloods and my yellow Annie). As long as you make clear distinctions between feeding/ handling/cleaning every time the snake will learn. Oh and at 8 feet you might think they are still small enough to interact with solo, just have someone else around. We don't need anymore reasons for more laws against our hobby.

Yup. I hook train all my snakes. I don't like getting bit so my hooks are second nature for feeding. And I know they are very smart. I have a savannah monitor he's like 1years old and 2 feet long and eats like a pig. And yes I know the last thing I wanna do is give the media more reasons to hate a large constrictor. This baby retic should be an interesting adventure
